  7. These release notes cover what is new in VirusScan 2.2.9 and the
  8. December DAT replacement (9601) of VirusScan for DOS, VirusScan for
  9. Windows, VirusScan for OS/2, VirusScan for Windows 95, VirusScan
  10. for NT and VShield.

  14. Why this emergency release:
  15.  
  16.    The versions released as 2.2.8 was discovered to have a couple of
  17.    false ids:
  18.  
  19.     SHZ on some COM files used in association with CPTOOLS.
  20.     PROBABLE UNKNOWN BOOT SECTOR VIRUS on Disk Manager MBRs.
  21.  
  22. This release of 2.2.9 (9601) fixes those issues.

  26. Vshield 2.2.9
  27.  
  28.    You will need VShield 2.2.8 or 2.2.9 in order to use these DAT files
  29.    with VShield for DOS.

  33. New features for VirusScan 2.2.9 and OS/2 Scan 2.2.9:
  34.  
  35. /CLEAN /FORCE
  36. When confronted with a boot sector virus, /CLEAN /FORCE tells
  37. VirusScan to forcibly remove the virus using its generic remover 
  38. capabilities.  For MBR infecting viruses, this is similar to the
  39. use of FDISK /MBR.
  40.  
  41. /CONTACTFILE <filename>
  42. Display contents of <filename> when a virus is found.  Previously it
  43. worked only for viruses found during disk scan.  Now, it also applies
  44. to viruses found during memory scan.
  45.  
  46. /FREQUENCY DAILY
  47. Will scan once each day based on the date and not by hours.
  48.  
  49. /NODOC
  50. In 2.2.7, we introduced .DOT and .DOC into the default list of files
  51. checked when you run Scan.  /NODOC forces DOT and DOC files not to be
  52. checked.  Some of our users requested this flexibility.

  56. OS2SCAN 2.2.9
  57.  
  58.    The OS/2 code has been changed to fix a disk corruption problem. It's 
  59.    implementation has created a change in the way OS/2 Scan works. When 
  60.    OS/2 Scan finds that the system has loaded IBM LAN drivers, it will 
  61.    not Scan the MBR of the system, however, if you are using those 
  62.    particular Requesters, you need to boot the OS/2 box from the two 
  63.    Diskettes provided by IBM and then Scan your System. Booting this way 
  64.    will not load the drivers and OS/2 Scan will Scan your MBR. It has 
  65.    been our experience that most Boot Sector Viruses will not let your 
  66.    OS/2 machine boot and you would need to boot from the Diskettes anyway 
  67.    to find the machine's problem.

  69.    Creating a Clean Boot Disk:
  70.    When creating a clean OS/2 boot disk, it is necessary to copy the file
  71.    NLS.DLL to the disk as well as OS2SCAN.EXE and *.DAT.

  73.    The file NLS.DLL is part of standard OS/2.  The path where it can be 
  74.    found is: \OS2\DLL\NLS.DLL

  78. About Macro viruses...
  79.  
  80. Included in this ZIP file is a self-extracting archive, MVTOOL10.EXE,
  81. being distributed by Microsoft.  It is a way to protect yourself against
  82. the Concept virus, as well as to warn you against document files that
  83. contain macros without your knowledge.
  84.  
  85. To make use of it, execute the program:
  86.  
  87.     MVTOOL10.EXE    40732  bytes
