- Creative Mixer is a powerful audio mixer that allows you to combine and
- manipulate sound from various audio sources. With Creative Mixer, it is
- possible to control the volume, tone, and gain of an audio source while running
- other OS/2 applications. You can also select and mix different audio sources
- during playback and recording.

- Creative Mixer consists of the following components:

- To use mouse to control Creative Mixer:

- o To select an option button, click on it with your left mouse button.
- o To adjust the slider bar, click on it and hold down the mouse button as you
- drag it to the desired position.
- o To activate Mixer menu, click on the Mixer window with your right mouse
- button.

- To use keyboard to control Creative Mixer:
-
- o To activate the System menu icon, press <Alt+Enter>.
- o To advance from one option to another, press <Tab>.
- o To move to the previous option, press <Shift+Tab> .
- o To adjust the volume, tone, or gain of audio sources, use the up or down
- arrow key. You can also use <Home> or <End>.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.3. How to Select Recording Sources ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- 1. Select Mixer from the System menu.
- A cascading menu appears.
- 2. Select Recording Settings from the cascading menu.
- The Recording Settings dialog box appears.
- 3. Select the audio source for recording.
- 4. For Sound Blaster 16, use the Gain group box to amplify the level of either
- channel and the AGC to automatically adjust input from the microphone.
- 5. Choose OK.

- Note: For Sound Blaster 16, to get stereo recording, make sure the left
- signal (L) of the audio source is directed to the Left In channel and
- the right signal (R) to the Right In channel.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.4. How to Control Output Gain ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- 1. Select Mixer from the System menu.
- A cascading menu appears.
- 2. Select Output Gain from the cascading menu.
- The Output Gain dialog box appears.
- 3. Change the gain setting of the left and right output channels to the
- desired level. You can do this by clicking the up or down arrows in the L
- and R spin boxes.
- 4. Choose OK to close the Output Gain dialog box.

- Note: This option is only available for Sound Blaster 16.

- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2.5. How to Select Your Audio Card's Interface ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

- 1. Select Mixer from the System menu.
- A cascading menu appears.
- 2. Select Configure... from the cascading menu.
- The Card Configuration dialog box appears.
- 3. Select your audio card type.
- 4. Choose OK to exit the Card Configuration dialog box.

- Note: If you are using a Sound Blaster Pro audio card and select a Sound
- Blaster 16 configuration, the Mixer window will appear showing the
- Sound Blaster 16 interface. However, you cannot select the Treble,
- Base, and PC Speakers buttons and their controls.

- 1. Select Mixer from the System menu.
- A cascading menu appears.
- 2. Select Custom View Settings... from the cascading menu.
- The Custom View Settings dialog box appear.
- 3. Select the controls to display for Custom View.
- 4. Select OK.

- Note: To display the custom view you have set, select Custom View from the
- cascading menu.

- Creative Mixer has three views:

- o Maximum View
- o Minimum View
- o Custom View

- To change the appearance of Creative Mixer window, select Maximum View, Minimum
- View, or Custom View from the System menu.

- 1. Select Mixer from the System menu.
- A cascading menu appears.
- 2. Select Save Settings from the cascading menu.

- Note: You can restore your settings to the one you saved before. To do so,
- select Restore Settings from the cascading menu.

- 1. Select Exit Mixer from the System menu.
- Alternatively, double-click the System menu icon.

- The mute buttons allow you to turn on sound from the an audio source. When an
- audio source is muted, the audio source's mute button is greyed out.

- There are nine mute buttons on the Mixer for the following audio sources:

- o Master Control
- o Treble
- o Base
- o Wave audio
- o MIDI audio
- o CD-audio
- o Line In
- o Microphone
- o PC Speaker

- Note: If you are using a Sound Blaster Pro audio card,the Treble, Base, and
- PC Speaker buttons and controls will not be available.

- Volume controls adjust the volume of selected audio sources.

- Balance controls adjust the balance of selected audio sources.

- Note: Balance represents the amount of volume sent to the right and left
- speakers. When the balance control is adjusted to the middle, equal
- distribution is given to the left and right speakers.

- When you choose the System menu icon, the System menu appears containing
- commands that allow you to perform operations such as move and minimize.

- When you select Mixer from the system menu, a cascading menu appears. This
- menu contains the following commands:

- Custom View Settings Allows you to customize Creative Mixer.
- Recording Settings Opens the Recording Settings dialog box.
- Output Gain Opens the Output Gain dialog box.
- Configure Allows you to select your audio card's configuration.
- Save Settings Saves all the settings made.
- Restore Settings Restores the settings to the one you saved before.
- Maximum View Displays all Mixer controls.
- Minimum View Displays the Master control only.
- Custom View Displays the customized controls only.
- Mixer Help Accesses the on-line help.
- About Mixer Displays copyright information.
