- Nocturne from Mendelssohn's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"
- (mndnoct.mid)
-
- This is a general midi file of the Nocturne for full orchestra. This
- is the 7th in the suite, two pieces before the famous Wedding March.
- It consists of 13 tracks with the following assigments:
- chan 1: Fr horn 1
- chan 2: Strings
- chan 3: Contra bass
- chan 4: bassoon
- chan 5: clarinet
- chan 6: Strings
- chan 7: Flute
- chan 8: Strings
- chan 9: Strings
- chan 11: Strings
- chan 12: Oboes
- chan 13: Strings
- chan 14: French Horn 2
-
- The order of the instruments is not as per the orchestral score since
- I changed the instrumentation quite a lot until I was satisfied with
- the result.
-
- Each channel contains midi volume controller 7 at maximum 127 with the
- expression controller 11 to vary the level and balance between parts.
- I used reverb controller 91 in each channel also. In some string tracks
- I inserted the program change from bowed strings to pizzicato and vice
- versa.
-
- I recorded the melody in real time played on my Yamaha Clavinova piano,
- added the other parts with the mouse and used editing, copying and
- pitch transposition techniques to add the other parts. The result is quite
- pleasant though the general midi patches are not too great. For example
- I think the bassoon sounds more like a gazoo. There are a few glitches
- in the rhythm, probably because I don't step record as I have no patience
- to put in all the notes using that method.
-
- I hope you enjoy this sequence.
