- El Pelele: Enrique Granados
- (elpelele.mid)
-
- Enrique Granados was one of the most important Spanish composers.
- He is famous for a set of pieces entitled "Goyescas" which were
- inspired by the paintings of Goya. He lived at the end of the
- 19th century, and died during the 1st world war when a German
- torpedo hit and sank the ship he and his wife were in during
- a journey across the English Channel.
-
- Tossing the pelele is an ancient popular sport in Spain. A
- pelele is a stuffed figure of a man, representing some
- undesirable lover.
-
- It is a very brilliant and sparkling piece, typically Spanish,
- and is very difficult technically as is much of Granados's
- other piano music.
-
- Alicia Delarocha has a superb recording of this piece. I think
- she is probably the best interpreter of Spanish piano music.
- Her recordings of Goyescas and the Iberia Suite by Albeniz are
- wonderful.
-
- I recorded this piece on a Yamaha Clavinova. It should be
- played on a similar instrument with plenty reverberation for
- best effect. I tried to recreate a performance in similar style
- to the recording I have of Alicia Delarocha.
-
- I hope you enjoy this.
