- INSTRUCTIONS - SUPER FILE BROWSER FOR DOS
-
-
-
- 1) Getting Started.
-
- This CD contains a fast and easy menu system for accessing the files
- from the entire CD. As there are several thousand files here for you
- to chose from, the files have been split up various categories or areas.
- This menu allows you to browse through the different file areas, as well
- as allowing you to unzip, copy, or view the files.
-
- The menu can be fully controlled (except for text entry) by your mouse!
-
- The menu is layed out in the following way. The top line contains the
- name of the area which you are currently in. Directly underneath is 10
- different buttons which perform the various operations you need. In the
- lower section is the listing of the files - complete with a file date,
- file size, and last but not least a short description of the file.
-
-
- 2) What is a Zip File.
-
- Zip files are known as archive files. They contain one or more files
- which have been compressed together into the one file. For example
- a zip file of your DOS directory would contain ALL the files in that
- directory, but instead of it appearing on your harddrive as 50 odd files
- it will appear as 1 file. This file will also be much smaller then the
- total size of all the files in that directory as each file INSIDE the
- Zip file has been compressed to it's smallest possible size.
-
- The advantages of using Zip Files is that it enables so much more data
- to fit onto your harddrive and it also allows you to have only one file
- representing that particular program or collection of data. In the case
- of these CD-Roms the 640 Megabytes of around 1000-5000 files contained
- would normally take several Gigabytes and maybe 30,000-40,000 on your
- harddrive.
-
- The Disadvantage of Zip Files is that they cannot be used by your machine
- until they have been 'UnZipped' (all the files INSIDE are uncompressed
- and put back onto your harddrive as seperate files). This program gives
- you the option to keep each program in its Zip File format or to Unzip it
- so you can use it straight away.
-
-
- 3) Browsing Through the File List.
-
- The file list appears in the following manner.
-
- FILENAM1.ZIP 34333 21-03-94 HERES A FANTASTIC FILE FOR YOU TO USE
- | | | AND ENJOY!
- FILENAM2.ZIP 234344 23-03-94 ANOTHER GREAT FILE FOR YOU TO VIEW AND
- | | | PLAY AROUND WITH. YOU CAN EVEN VIEW THE
- | | | CONTENTS OF MYSELF, OR COPY OR UNZIP ME!
- Name of the | | | |
- File. File Size | Description of file contents, can
- in Bytes. | be several lines long.
- Date of file
- (abbreviated)
-
- Movement around the file list is easy! Just use the <UP> & <DOWN> arrow
- keys to move up and down through the files. The currently selected line
- will be highlited with a blue bar. You can also click on the line with
- your mouse pointer and left mouse-button for quick selection!
-
- In most cases the file listing is several screens in length. Only a
- small portion of this list can be displayed at the one time as we would
- run out of room otherwise! To the left of the file listing is a 'Vertical
- Scroll Bar'. This displays the selected screen of text with a solid white
- block. The entire list is the shaded block. The start of the list is the
- top of this block and the end of the list is the bottom of this block.
- The Vertical Scroll Bar also contains an up and down movement arrows.
-
- To move up and down one screen at a time you can press the <PAGEUP> &
- <PAGEDOWN> keys. You can also use your mouse by clicking on the desired
- part of Vertical Scroll Bar.
-
-
-
- 4) Using the Command Buttons.
-
- There are 10 different command buttons on the top section of the menu
- program. These can be activated by two different methods - by moving
- your mouse pointer on top of the button and clicking the left mouse
- button, or by pressing the relevent function or control key which is
- highlited on each button. The commands work the following way :
-
- "COPY FILE" - Quick Key Selection : <F1>,<ENTER>
- This command will copy the currently selected or tagged files to a
- directory or drive of your choice. When this command is activated it

- to create that directory before it can copy the file.
-
- "UNZIP FILE" - Quick Key Selection : <F2>,<TAB>
- This command will Unzip the currently selected or tagged files to a
- directory or drive of your choice. When this command is activated it

-
- "VIEW ZIPFILE" - Quick Key Selection : <F3>
- This command will allow you to view the contents of the currently
- selected Zip File. It will display the directories, file names, and
- file sizes and dates. You can then display files from within the
- zip file by selecting the 'View File' command from inside this window.
-
- "CHANGE AREA" - Quick Key Selection : <F4>
- This command will allows you to change the file area listing you are
- currently viewing. It will bring up a list of available file areas for
- you to chose from. You can select another area or simply press <ESCAPE>
- to return to the area you were viewing.
- * NOTE * : There are around 32 Areas for you to chose from. Press the
- <PGUP>/<PGDOWN> Keys or use the Vertical Scroll Bar to view the entire
- listing!
-
- "SEARCH TEXT" - Quick Key Selection : <F5>
- This command allows you to search the current file listing for a
- special keyword. For example you may want to search for the keyword
- 'CARDS' in the entertainment areas if you are trying to find all the
- card games available in this area. If your keyword is found it will
- display the filename and description and give you the option to add it
- to your list of tagged files (see TAG/UNTAG FILE command for further
- information of tagged files).
-
- "25/43 LINES" - Quick Key Selection : <F6>
- This command allows you to change the current screen mode. When the
- menu program loads it will default to a 25 line character screen.
- Selecting this button will allow you to toggle between this screen mode
- and a more detailed 43 lines character screen. The 43 Line screen
- requires a EGA or VGA compatible graphics card.
-
- "CHANGE CD" - Quick Key Selection : <F7>
- This command allows you to use other Super Oz Shareware CD-Roms if you

- Displays the help file you are now reading and other relevent information!
-
- "TAG/UNTAG FILE" - Quick Key Selection : <INS> (Insert Key)

- file listing. Tagging enables you select more then one file at a time
- which can then be copied or unzipped in one operation rather then
- repeating the process for each individual file. When a file has been
- tagged a 'tick' character will appear to the left of the file in the
- file listing.
-
- "QUIT" - Quick Key Selection : <F10>, <ESC> (Escape key)
