  47. There are two files for xwing, xwngsnds.zip and xwingupd.zip.  They are 
  48. definitely not on epas, unless someone has put them into the submit 
  49. directory recently.  You might find them on orst but I would attempt to 
  50. log into wuarchive (better try at 4:00am or you probably won't get on) or 
  51. the UK site.

  53. Or, get megaem 3.03b or 3.04b.  They fix a lot of problems and while they 
  54. aren't perfect yet you don't need (can't use) the aforementioned .zip 
  55. files with xwing and pmode megaem since it uses a preset instrument bank 
  56. file.  You may be able (I will try soon, meant to do so but forgot) to 
  57. set up a special bank for megaem 3.0xb which includes those patches, I 
  58. don't know.  I'll try it and see.

  74. Has anybody experienced any problems using the Terminal Velocity GUS 
  75. patch?  Before I got it, I was using the crappy little SB clone taking up 
  76. useful space in my computer that I keep around for compatability, and I 
  77. had no problems with the game...  Once I installed the patch, and tried 
  78. to run it with my GUS, I have problems up the wazoo...
  79.  
  80. The first one is that I can't run the music in either stereo or surround 
  81. mode...  If I try, I get all sorts of static, and noise...  Secondly, I 
  82. have a Gravis Gamepad hooked up to the joystick port on the SB clone, and 
  83. I get horrible drift when using it....  I've tried using the port on the 
  84. GUS, but no games ever recognize it...  I can't figure out how to disable 
  85. the port on the SB... On top of that, I have a game port on my I/O card 
  86. that I can never get anything to recognize either....
  87.  
  88. If I can't figure this out, I'm going to be stuck listening to the music 
  89. played through a cdappy SB that won't even do sampling rates of over 22kHz...

  120. Look, the lines had LH's and devicehigh's cause they were cut and
  121. pasted from another boot that did need memory manager's to load CD-ROM
  122. driver's high. Regardless, this setup does run Descent faster than
  123. with memory managers, which was the question i was answering.
  124.  
  125. It's a fact that memory managers do give you a bit more memory with a
  126. speed trade off. They slow the system down a bit for some programs.
  127. That's what i was refering to. Generally, if you don't need them,
  128. don't use them. The guy asked for max speed, and that's what i gave
  129. him.

  131. And as the accusation of me running Win95 and not knowing shit, um, i
  132. was refering to OS/2 which is a very capable memory manager and OS
  133. that provides "more than a few extra kB". Like i said. Next time i'll
  134. be blunt.

  136. About the IRQ's... it's true. It may not help sound quality any and it
  137. may irrelevant, but that's how it works. Don't flame me for posting
  138. arcane PC tech info.

  140. About the drivers, i was refering to people who hoped the NT driver
  141. that guy is working on would work for Win95, not the other way around.
  142. I was hoping for a response from the author of the driver, not to be
  143. flamed.

  145. More relevant stuff:
  146. Yes, the new MegaEm works well with GUS/SBPro setup. In the
  147. interactive setup for MegaEm, disable the SB Emulation. Works fine on
  148. Tie Fighter.
  149.  
  150. And in general, i agree with the call for a word from Gravis. There
  151. are a lot of people here who would like support for their non-DOS OS's
  152. and i'm with them. Hell, most people would like a Win3.1 driver that
  153. is consistant and doesn't require user input depending on the
  154. application being run.
  155. It seems the on going Win3.1 driver ordeal is like one long beta
  156. program with no end in sight. Not a good sign if Gravis chooses to
  157. support more than 1 OS.

  204. back did NOT support the gravis, whereas the one that's on the Full

  238. I just purchased the Teac Quad speed cdrom drive but couldn't get it to work with my Gus Max.  I connected it to the Panasonic connector, jumpered the Panasonic enabled jumper and tried several base addresses (320, 340, 360).

  240. The Teac driver loads and so does Mscdex but when I switch to the cd drive and type dir, the system locks.
  241.  
  242. For now I'm using the 8bit controller card that comes with the drive.

  244. Three questions:
  245. 1-Will it work off the Gus Max?
  246. 2-If it will work, is there a way to get the audio cable connected to the Gus?
  247. 3-Is there an advantage in having it connected to the Gus over the Teac card?

  266. 16bit, 44kHz playback, no volume control, native mod player (UltiMOD),
  267. native midi coming soon. No recording. Thats in OS/2 proper.

  269. In a DOS VM:
  270. It virutalizes the card so that DOS software works fine (games,
  271. XTC-Play, Cubic, Playmidi, etc.). SBOS and MegaEM will not work, but
  272. his driver provides GM-Emulation when registered. Win3.1 drivers are
  273. VxD's and will not run under OS/2 so no native Win sound, but you can
  274. load the MPU401 driver for windows and he says it'll work and i'm sure
  275. it does.
  276. They are designed to smoothly allow DOS sessions and this is why they
  277. are good.
