- To anyone whom might have a clue:
-
- I recently received an upgrade. 386 to a 486 2/dx66,
- unfortunately, when re-installing software, I received an error message;
-
- SBOS vetor non-functioning
-
- What ever it is has been causing digital audio problems with
- several games. On a coold boot, applications excluding windows will
- hang, but once windows is brought up and closed, those same applications
- run, with audio trouble. Can anyone identify the problem and (hopefully)
- a nice solution.
-
- Sincerly yours..... I've had enough !!

- If you really have 1.4, all you need to do is select GUS in the setup. If
- you don't, you have to copy the game to HD, and apply the 1.4 patch.

- Hey, I'm just wondering if there is a patch somewhere to make the gus

- To get XCOM 1.4 CD to work with the gus...
- Install it all (xcopy /s) to your hard drive. Yeah, it takes more
- space, but hey...
- Then install the patch.
- Then boot using no emulators, and select ultrasound support in setup, and
- run the game.
- I did this, and it worked.
- Apparently whoever wrote XCOM 1.4 patch didn't have the CD users in mind,
- 'cause mine wouldn't work at all with the CD version running off the CD,
- gus or no...

- Subject: Cyberia and GUS solution
-
- I finally got Cyberia to work with my regular 1MB GUS v3.4. Just enter
- cyberia with the -m switch. The -m switch is supposed to fix
- difficulties playing Cyberia with a mouse, but for some reason, it allows
- MegaEM 3.04B to run well without sound dropping out or crashing the
- system. Go figure. There are *occasional* stutters though, but the
- system appears to be stable.

- Subject: MegaEm 3.04B -- an SB PRO emulator?
-
- I notice that selecting regular SB in a game like Sam&Max CD gives
- garbled speech, but selecting SB PRO gives understandable speech.
- There's still some problems with MegaEm SB digital though -- the talkie
- stuff is *slightly* out of phase in the left and right channels, giving a
- pseudo-reverb effect. As the speech plays longer though, the channels
- come in phase, giving regular speech output.
- I had thought that regular 8-bit SoundBlaster is supposedly the
- first option to select, according to the FAQ and docs, but I guess SB PRO
- gives MegaEm better compatibility with games (other games also work
- better with SB PRO selected).

-
- Could somebody please advise me as to which config.sys and autoexec.bat to

- Right now, I think the GUS is slowing the game down a bit. I am running it
