  36. Ok, well if you want to play like this, remember that the GF1 is a
  37. modified Ensoniq DOC 2.  The DOC 1 was used on the motherboard of the
  38. Apple IIgs, giving it the most impressive sound capabilities of it's day.
  39. It was kind of amazing how at the time that I was using my IIgs heavily,
  40. they were really hyping sound blaster on the PC.  When I actually heard it
  41. I was amazed at what a piece of junk it was!  And the thing is...  Wavetable
  42. was available then, and they could have used it instead!  The only reason
  43. it didn't catch on was because of Sound Blaster and the catchy name of
  44. FM-Synthesis.  I'm still pretty amazed that almost every PC game ported
  45. from a game console uses MIDIfied music.  It sounds aweful, and I just
  46. can't figure out why commercial programmers don't figure this out.  I guess
  47. it's because trackers are free, while MIDI sequencers cost lost of $$$,
  48. making them more "legitimate."  I dunno...  Just rambling.
