  28. You may install those Win95 drivers again; I have an answer to this problem.
  29. I had excatly the same problem, and the help came from one of the
  30. comp.soundcard newsgroups:
  31.  
  32.         1.  Make sure you still have ULTMPORT.DRV in \windows\system\ subdir.
  33.         2.  Add the following to the [drivers] section of the system.ini file:
  34.      midi1=ultmport.drv
  35.         3.  Save it and reboot Win95.
  36.  
  37. And that's it. I was very reliefed when at last Win95 and GUS midi port was
  38. working together. Bad thing is that the midi port driver is still the old
  39. 16-bit driver, and secondly Gravis in a way bit cheated us on this midi
  40. thing; new drivers supposed to have _all_ the functionality of the old
  41. drivers. Even Gravis' technical support was a bit confused on this. Maybe on
  42. the new update...?

  71. I seem to be posting this rather a lot since I found out...
  72.  
  73. It appears that you are supposed to still use the old ultmport.drv
  74. driver alongside the new Win95 drivers to access the MIDI port -
  75. it should still be in \windows\system. This means that you
  76. end up using grvsultr.vxd (Win95), ultrasnd.drv (Win95), and
  77. ultmport.drv (Win3.1). You don't use grvsultr.386.

  79. Unfortunately the Gravis Win95 install script fails to set it up,
  80. so you have to go into SYSTEM.INI and add midi1=ultmport.drv
  81. (after the line which goes midi='something else'). If you have
  82. other MIDI devices, you may need midi2= midi3= etc.

  84. It then works, but I still get an occasional Win95 total hang
  85. when I first access the MIDI port (just the same as I used
  86. to get with the Win3.1 drivers under Win95). Kris at Gravis
  87. has not been able to suggest anything other than "Maybe an
  88. NMI problem" (but it used to work fine under Win3.1), or
  89. "try different DMAs or IRQs".
