- Triggering a WAV from Cakewalk is a clever, but limited, trick. Instead, use
- that WAV to make a PAT. Set middle C as the base frequency for the PAT file.
- Now you can simply play middle C to get the same effect as the WAV, a lower note
- to get a slower playback, or a higher note for a speeded playback.

- I bought a new pc with Win95 already installed. I restarted in DOS mode to install
- the GUS software. When I then rebooted, Win95 complained that it could not find win.com
- and refused to start. The GUS install had added a path command (which didn't append to the
- existing path) to the autoexec.bat file which wiped out the path to all the Win95 files.
- After commenting out this line in the autoexec.bat file, everything then worked fine.

- The Advanced Gravis Web and FTP site is up, but its address is not
- resolvable by DNS. The URL is http://192.197.227.10 (ftp site
- is same IP address). Don't see anything really new on the FTP site
- that we don't already have on EPAS.
-
- Check it out. Some of their links don't work though since it
- tries to resolve www.gravis.com. For example, under "What's New",
- the Products button doesn't work. You can get there using
- http://192.197.227.10/prodlist.htm though. However, the link
- to the "Ultrasound Plug & Play (New)" doesn't work yet. It does say
- this much though:
-
- Featuring the AMD/GRAVIS Interwave(R) chip, 16-bit 48kHz
- recording, EIDE CD-ROM interface and add up to 8MB RAM
- on board RAM.
-
- The product links for every other product do appear to work.

-
- Looks like Advanced Gravis didn't want us to go to their web
- site. The URL at http://192.197.227.10 now prompts for a username
- and password. They closed it down on us. The ftp site at the same
- address is still accessible, at least it is as I write this.
-
- Typical lies of Gravis, promising us a web site for Nov 1. They have
- lost any loyalties I had. Can anyone recommend a good Windows 95
- wavetable card that can co-exist with an SB16? Without knowing the
- specs of the new Interwave PnP card, how do I know if I should wait
- for it to come out, or to go get a Turtle Beach or Roland card?
- I've seen the AMD Interwave chip specs, but that doesn't tell me
- anything about the drivers (DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT,
- OS/2, etc.) that should come with it.
-
- Thanks...Tom

-
- And? I would imagine that if it wasn't registered as www.gravis.com
- or whatever that they were just testing things out. They probably
- weren't expecting 800+ hits the first time it opened for "testing."
- Or, as I suspect, they might have had problems getting their hostname
- registered by Nov. 1.

-
- Promising? I don't remember a promise. I remember them saying that
- they would be creating a website, and that it would probably be open
- Nov 1. Even if they promised Nov 1, things change. From what I saw,
- the pages were up and working nicely. So possibly their DNS
- registration has been held up. (Who would have guessed?) And what's
- the big deal about this website anyway? I would imagine that the
- focus of the website will be selling products and providing drivers.
- Well, you already have the product, and the drivers are available at
- numerous places on the net... so what are you missing?
-
- As for a Win95 card, I have no clue. I refuse to pay the Gates tax
- and use an operating system that has better multitasking, better
- features, and just plain runs better. But that is a different story.
- If you have money to spend I'd get the Roland daughterboard for the
- SB16. As long as someone could assure me that it is hardware
- compatible with having an external Roland hooked up to a MIDI port,
- you can't beat it for less.
