- About CD Sampling (Reading audio data with CD-ROM
- directly from the audio CD, without re-digitising it)
-
- There's one chance with SCSI drives, I've heard it works, but for me it
- never. I tested it with a Compaq Proliant Server with Compaq CD-ROM, and
- we also tested a Toshiba 4x speed SCSI CD-ROM: Unsuccessful.
-
- There's another chance: The program is shareware, you can get it from ftp
- sites I think. It's called cdinfo14.arj. It tested with many ide drives,
- and it works, it CAN read audio data from audio CD-s.
-
- It works with: Sony CDU33A slcd.sys v1.71a mscdex 2.22
- Matsushita/Creative sbcd.sys 2.23
- Panasonic CR-562-B cdmke.sys 2.23
- Philips CM-206 dd260.sys v1.41 2.23
- Sony CDU-55E atapi.sys v2.17a 2.23
-
- No success:
-
- some Mitsumi FX series
- some NEC series
- some TEAC series
-
- NOTE: not all CD-rom can read audio tracks, and some drives (like the
- Sony CDU-55E should be re-jumpered to do this. Some drive won't work in
- RED-BOOK mode, or High-Sierra mode. RTFM of CDINFO14.arj

- We took the DRAM from a S3 VGA card, obtaining the whole card for
- $35.- (a second-hand one). It works OK, but we do have just the spare
- S3 without memory...;-)

-
- You could try my MSCDEX (msdos/windows) cdrom audio reader..
- supports audio-synchronizing what results in a better sound.
- Also audio channel manipulation and other shit..
- Output directly to 16 bit 44khz stereo WAV.

- Subject: Patches
-
- Thanks to everybody for replying to my question about
- new patches.
- Then, here are the answers to YOUR questions:
- 1) I also have a tenor sax (200 KB) which is much better than
- the one shipped with the GUS.
- 2) The distorted guitar was found somewhere from a friend of
- mine who doesn't remeber where.
- 3) The bass patches were made by me.
- 4) I've also made a trumpet (not much better then the one shipped with
- the GUS),
- an acoustic guitar (good but too big for its sound quality), a female
- choir (the vocal extension
- is anyway very limited), a brass section (quite good).
-
- I don't have any problems about uploading the files somewhere, but
- remeber:
-
- 1) I have access to the university lab ONCE A WEEK, so you may have to
- wait
- a little before dowloading them.
-
- 2)I don't know how to UPLOAD files.I've started to use the FTP just
- yesterday and i've only downloaded.
- So please tell me HOW to upload the file, and WHERE. A site in England
- would be perfect.
- I use Linux.
