  20. If you have been trying to use any version of Power Chords with Win 95 beta
  21. you've probably found:

  23. The patches don't cache
  24.  
  25. If you pre-cache patches outside Power Chords it works for those patches.
  26.  
  27. Here's why:
  28.  
  29. The messaging specifications of Win 95 have changed from Windows 3.1. Power
  30. Chords Pro uses special messages to the UltraSound driver to perform patch
  31. caching in a way that is optimized for our applications. Unfortunately due to
  32. the change in the specification, there is now a conflict with those message
  33. numbers in Win 95.
  34.  
  35. We are working to resolve the problem in 3 ways:
  36.  
  37. 1) Microsoft may accommodate the old messages in Win 95
  38.  
  39. 2) Gravis may alter the drivers to accomodate the new specs
  40.  
  41. 3) We will offer Windows Standard patch caching calls in a future upgrade
  42. (well in time for the final version of Windows 95) which will work correctly
  43. with the UltraSound.

  49. I have been informed by Microsoft that the changes have been made so that
  50. applications which are marked as Windows 3.1 apps will be able to use the old
  51. patch caching messages.

  53. I am waiting on a new build of Win 95 to test this.

  55. If this is true, I can issue a patch so that your copy of Power Chords will
  56. work with Win 95 when it is released, using the current GUS drivers.
  57.  
  58. New versions of Power Chords will use Win 95 specific drivers (when Gravis
  59. releases them), or standard Windows patch caching calls with the old ones.
  60.  
  61. I'll keep you posted when I get a new build.

  81. I heard of his patches, but I never did download them.  Unfortunately, I 
  82. don't think those patches are still available in the mirror sites.  Most 
  83. of the really old files have been deleted.

  93. A demo tape or demo CD with comparisons of similar instrument patches
  94. is a great idea, in a similar way that the Ultrasound Experience
  95. compares FM to wavetable and various GM sound cards.

  97. Question is, how far and wide can you distribute it for non-local
  98. consumers?

  133. Have you tried the Apollo program?  It does reverb, for concert hall, 
  134. club, church effects.  But as for specific guitar effects such as flange, 
  135. I don't know.  However, I think Francois Dion, the guy who made some of 
  136. Howling Dog patches and has some FAQs written about the UltraSound, may 
  137. know more.  His address would be in the FAQ, or ask Eric Bell.
