- Well, I got some good news today in the mail. My sequencer of choice in
- Windows just got an upgrade; it now supports Patch-Caching and Bank Select!
- I know Cakewalk Pro supported at least patch-caching long ago, but Master
- Tracks Pro hooked me to its interface way back over 5 years ago on my
- friend's Macintosh. (I now have a PC, an old GUS 2.2, and a Roland D-10).
- Here's the rest of the upgrade newsletter for those that are interested:
-
- * Multi-Port Support
- * New Velocity Window
- * New Transport
- * Master Fader
- * Patch-Caching
- * Bank Select: Access additional banks of instruments in your synth
- * Ghost Notes: Dissplay note data in controller windows
- * Improved Step Editor: Now with snap-to-grid, velocity tails,
- step entry velocities, and program change well
- * Enlarged Counter: View time and measure information from across
- the room
- * Lock Tracks: Prevents selected tracks from being affected by
- transpose operations
- * Explode Type 0 MIDI Files Automatically
- * New Hot Keys
- * New Slide Data and Thin Notes Commands
-
- The upgrade price for registered users is $79. It doesn't say anything about
- the full price for new buyers. Call Passport at 1-800-443-3210 for any info.
-
- I think there is a demo somewhere of an older version of Master Tracks Pro.
- Either on oak.oakland.edu or ftp.cica.indiana.edu -- I'll look it up if
- anyone's interested. The demo did not support patch caching, so keep
- Patch Manager handy if you seek it out.
-
- Also, if anyone gets this upgrade before I do, let us all know how well
- the patch-caching works!

- I think ULTRINIT (newer versions) have something to do with the vanishing
- mouse in windows. I have tested it, and seems to be the problem.
-
- If I run ULTRINIT at boot-up, and do nothing in DOS, and start windows, my
- mouse is there, and then it vanishes. If I exit, and restart windows, my
- mouse is fine.
-
- If I rem out ULTRINIT, and do same, my mouse doesn't vanish.
-
- In DOS, if I do stuff with the GUS (depends on program), sometimes my mouse
- vanishes, and sometimes it don't. I think this has to do with a 'funky'
- init thingy with ULTRINIT.
-
- Is there any other GUS Init programs that I can try? Maybe someone can make
- a cheap init program, using the ULTRASND setting, so we can test this
- further.
-
- Obvisouly, some init routines in mod players, demos, etc work fine. There
- should be option on some of these just to init, and exit <G>
-
- I contacted tech@gravis about this possible problem already.
-
- So, think this is a good hypothesis?
