  7. What's new in version 1.31 ( compared to v1.30 ) 12-02-95
  8. =========================================================
  9.  
  10.    70 of the v1.30 patches are changed and there are 2 new patches.
  11.    Now there is also Windows version of the Patmenu included ( wpatmenu.exe ).
  12.  
  13.    - There were several bugs in the v1.30 of PPLT. I fixed all the
  14.      bug I found. It is useless to list them all here. Mainly the
  15.      bugs related to bad loops and tunings.
  16.  
  17.    - Some people have noted about clicky abd poppy drums. I checked them
  18.      out, but didn't find any problems. However, I made a little fade out
  19.      into end of each drum to make sure that there aren't any volume ramps
  20.      at end of the patches.
  21.  
  22.    - Now the acoustic piano of the MegaEm 3.xx emulation is also changed
  23.      to 80kB small\acpiano.pat patch, so you don't have to suffer any more
  24.      from the terrible original GUS piano !!
  25.  
  26.  
  27.       snare1           - Brighter acoustic snare. Has a good effect to the
  28.                          overall sound quality.
  29.  
  30. [new] acguitar         - The patch provided in the v1.30 of PPLT wasn't so
  31.                          good as the one in v1.20. So I made a smaller version
  32.                          of the v1.20 patch.
  33.  
  34.       odguitar         - The patch sounded better without one waveform !
  35.                          Now it's smaller and better.
  36.  
  37. [new] nyguitar         - Someone noted that the guitars provided in the
  38.                          MaxPats patch set were better. Well I tested
  39.                          them and found that the nylon guitar was indeed
  40.                          somewhat better. In fact it is a louder version of
  41.                          the GUS original nylon guitar.

  44. What's new in version 1.30 ( compared to v1.20 ) 11-12-95
  45. =========================================================
  46.  
  47.    63 of the v1.20 patches are changed and there are 50 new patches.
  48.    There are also two new midi files and 1 MB version of the patch set
  49.    for MegaEm 3.06b included. Again, due to the changes the patch set
  50.    is now significally smaller. Only 40 KB difference to the original
  51.    GUS patch set !
  52.

  54.    (1) New patches:
  55.  
  56.         27 NEW DRUM PATCHES FROM KAWAI XD5 PROFESSIONAL DRUM MACHINE with
  57.         the old cymbal rides and TAMBOURINE FROM KURZWEIL K2000.
  58.  
  59.                                 and also...
  60.         
  61.         small\acpiano- Smaller Acoustic Piano for games. It is used
  62.                        automatically with Game Compability mode. May be,
  63.                        in the future there will be also other smaller versions
  64.                        of large patches in this directory ... 
  65.         harmonca     - Not very good, but still MUCH better than the original.
  66.                        IMHO the original one is the UGLIEST patch of the GUS
  67.                        midi set !
  68.         jazzgtr      - New jazz guitar. Waves ripped from a real jazz guitar
  69.                        riff found in the internet.
  70.         jungle       - Nice jungle effect from ProPats III.
  71.         seashore     - New seashore patch from ProPats III.
  72.         accordn      - At last a proper accordion patch.
  73.         shakazul     - A new shakuhachi flute ! Well, it may sound funny
  74.                        in some songs, but it's still VERY GOOD !
  75.         clarinet     - Brighter and more realistic clarinet.
  76.         clavinet     - New clavinet. It isn't so aggressive sounding than
  77.                        the original one.
  78.         woodflut     - New woodflut. More like the real instrument.
  79.         sawwave      - The original sound is very good, just a bit weak.
  80.                        So I made it louder.
  81.         acguitar     - New, more bright version.
  82.

  84.         Also made better versions of these GUS patches:
  85.          surdo2, castinet, celeste, toms, gtrharm, percorg, synbras1,synbras2,
  86.          and tubebell
  87.      
  88.    (2) Drum patches which I made louder:        
  89.         surdo1, woodblk1, woodblk2, clave, tamborin,cymcrsh1,cymcrsh2
  90.  
  91.    (3) Other percussive patches that I made louder:
  92.         timpani, orchit, syntom, taiko
  93.  
  94.    (4) Added mode bass to the sound of these patches:
  95.         bassoon, tuba, pizzcato, church, contraba, cleangtr, distgtr,
  96.         synbass1, acbass, slapbas1, slapbas2, fretless, mutegtr
  97.  
  98.    (5) Made these patches louder:
  99.         vibes, xylophon, hitbrass
  100.  
  101.    (6) Other changes:
  102.         cello        - Made it smaller ( 59kB -> 31kB ). Wonder why I didn't
  103.                        do this earlier...
  104.         acpiano      - The acoustic piano is now much brighter. It also has
  105.                        large (about 10 KB) bidirectional loops, which makes
  106.                        it sound more spacy.
  107.         bottle       - It had a bad envelope.
  108.         xylophon     - Made a bit of echo to the sound.
  109.         odguitar     - Made it louder and more distorted.
  110.         frenchrn     - corrected looping. Due to this the patch is also a bit
  111.                        smaller.
  112.         nyguitar     - Sounds better now.
  113.  
  114.         All multisampled patches and drums are now panned, which makes midi
  115.         files sound more stereophonic even if the midi file does not contain
  116.         any specific information about the instrument panning.

  119.    (8) New midi files in the "miditest" directory:
  120.         etude.mid    - For demonstrating the new Shakuhachi flute.
  121.         takeawil.mid - Just for entertainment.

  126. What was new in version 1.20 ( compared to v1.10 ) 09-17-95
  127. ===========================================================

  129.    4 of the v1.10 patches are changed and there are 24 new patches.
  130.    Due to the changes the patch set is now slightly smaller.

  133.    (1) Made these GUS patches more or less better. "Better" is the key word
  134.        here:
  135.  
  136.        mutetrum,pizzcato,contraba,belltree,revcym,santur,tuba,koto, woodblk,
  137.        trumpet, clarinet, trombone, bassoon, altosax, sprnosax.
  138.  
  139.    (2) acpiano  - New acoustic piano. It's a smaller version (120 kB) of a
  140.                   750 kB "Steinway piano" patch from Yamaha tx16w !
  141.  
  142.    (3) doo      - Made it smaller ( 79kB -> 46kB ). No quality loss.
  143.        shakazul - The fixed version also available from file "ppl11fix.arj"
  144.        startrak,
  145.        atmosphr - The original patches had clicking loops ! They are now
  146.                   corrected and I also added some flange effect to the samples
  147.                   to make them even better.
  148.        sweeper  - new, flanged, sweeper. It reminds me of those Tangerine
  149.                   Dream analog synths back 70s'! Well, may be not... ;)
  150.        agogo    - Smaller version and also has a bit better sound.
  151.        vibes    - All new version from TB Proteus.      
  152.        flute    - Lowered the sweep delay of the middle wave.
  153.        tenorsax - New version (28kB), made from a 738kB Kurzweil patch.                  
  154.        barisax  - New patch, made from three waves.
  155.        cleangtr - smaller and better version.
  156.  
  157.    (4) snare1   - Changed to enhanced version of GUS Acoustic Snare.
  158.                   The SCC1 version was good, but too soft.
  159.  
  160.    (5) patmenu -  Fixed a bug in the user interface. If one pressed
  161.                   "r" wrong line was highlighted.
  162.  
  163.    (6) Included more midi files. The new midi files are made for solo
  164.        piano. With them you can test the new Acoustic Piano patch:
  165.  
  166.        mephisto.mid , wishupon.mid and fantasi1.mid
  167.

  171. What was changed in version 1.10 ( compared to v1.00 )
  172. ======================================================

  174.    These changes don't sound to be major ones, but they are...really.
  175.    46 of the v1.0 patches were changed and there are 3 new patches.

  179.    (1) These sounds needed to be made quieter:
  180.           Cabasa, Maracas, Shaker and Basslead
  181.  
  182.    (2) I Discovered a new way to make a sound louder without making it distorted.
  183.        I used that technique to these patches:
  184.                 Acbass,Fngrbass,Slapbas1,Slapbas2,Synbass1,Synbass2,Pickbass,
  185.                 Fretless,Bottle, Syntom, Timpani, Mutegtr,Shakazul,
  186.                 A half of the drum kit.

  188.    (3) Other corrections made :
  189.           Aurora             - the complete version...
  190.           Halopad,Fantasia,
  191.           Freshair,Unicorn   - Better looping and envelope.
  192.           Choir -  Changed choir.pat sound so that the first (lowest)
  193.                    wave is (also) from original GUS patch because it
  194.                    differed too much from the other waves in the patch.

  198.    (4) New patches:    
  199.          Synbass2 - Much louder version of the GUS original.

  203.    (5) I'am not sure, if the 1.0 version was MegaEm 2.xx compatible,
  204.        after all. I don't know when the patches got incompatible, but
  205.        it should work now !

  207.    (6) If you already haven't collected a library of xxxxx midi files, there
  208.        are now included few midi files in the "miditest" directory.
