  1. Covox Speech Thing Driver for Windows 3.1 and Multimedia Windows

  4. STHING.DRV is a Windows WAVE driver. It requires either:
  5.   1) Windows 3.1 or
  6.   2) Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions.
  7.  
  8. Notes:
  9.   This driver uses a printer port to play sounds. If a sound is
  10.   playing, the printer port will be unavailable until the sound has
  11.   finished playing. If the Print Manager (or some other application)
  12.   is using the port, the driver will NOT play the sound.
  13.  
  14.   Like the internal speaker driver, the Speech Thing driver plays
  15.   exclusively, so Windows will not run programs or respond to the
  16.   user while sounds are playing. Unlike the internal speaker, the
  17.   Speech Thing sounds much better.

  41. Instructions for use:
  42. ---------------------

  44.   1) Copy STHING.DRV, VADLIBWD.386 and OEMSETUP.INF to a floppy disk
  45.      or temporary subdirectory on your hard drive.
  46.  
  47.   2) Run the Windows Control Panel. (Usually in the "Main" group.)
  48.      Double click the "Drivers" Icon.
  49.  
  50.   3) Click the [Add...] button in the "Drivers" dialog box.
  51.  
  52.   4) Select "Unlisted or Updated Driver" in the list box labeled
  53.      "List of Drivers" and click the [OK] button.
  54.  
  55.   5) Type the path to the directory containing STHING.DRV in the
  56.      edit field and click the [OK] button.

  58.   6) Highlight the "Covox Speech Thing wave driver" item in the list
  59.      box and click the [OK] button.
  60.  
  61.   7) You will see a dialog titled "Speech Thing Setup". Select the
  62.      port your Speech Thing is connected to in the group of radio
  63.      buttons titled "Port".
  64.  
  65.   8) Click the [OK] button when you're done with setup.

  67.   9) Click the [Close] button in the "Drivers" dialog.
