- Measure Editing
- ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
-
- The Measure Editing functions are divided
- into two groups. The first group (Cut,Copy,
- Shift,Quantize) may operate on a range of
- measures, and may be selected by clef. The
- second group (Paste,Merge,Insert) may be
- repeated.
-
- Measure Buffer
- ────────────────────
- Cut and Copy functions save notation in the
- Measure Buffer. The size of the Measure
- Buffer is always displayed at the top right
- of the screen. The contents of the measure
- buffer may be pasted or merged at any point
- in the song. The Measure Buffer may also be
- exported to or imported from a file, so that
- song parts may be transferred between song
- files. The Measure Buffer is automatically
- cleared when a new song is loaded, or when
- memory has been exhausted.
-
- Clef Selector
- ────────────────────
- With the keyboard, enter <C> to access the
- Clef selector. Move the highlighted box to
- the desired clef and press <Enter>. With the
- mouse, click the desired clef. 'Both Clefs'
- is the default for editing functions.
-
- Measure Range
- ────────────────────
- Editing functions may operate on a range of
- measures. Enter <F> or click the From-Measure
- window to activate the From-Measure icon.
- Enter <T> or click the To-Measure window to
- activate the To-Measure icon. The allowable
- range is 0 to 999.
-
- Press <A> or click [All] to select all
- measures for the edit operation.
-
- The From-Measure and To-Measure may be marked
- with <Ctrl><F1> and <Ctrl><F2> respectively.
- Press <N> or click [Range] to input this
- preset range.
-
- Cut
- ────────────────────
- Enter <U> or click [Cut] to delete or clear
- the selected range of measures. If Clef is set
- to 'Both', the measure range is deleted.
- Otherwise, the selected clef is cleared
- within the measure range. Deleted or cleared
- measures are saved in the Measure Buffer for
- future pasting, merging, or exporting.
-
- Copy
- ────────────────────
- Enter <O> or click [Copy] to copy the
- selected range of measures to be saved in the
- Measure Buffer for future pasting, merging,
- or exporting.
-
- Shift
- ────────────────────
- Enter <S> or click [Shift] to shift notation
- from one clef to the other for the selected
- measure range. You must choose the clef
- (Treble or Bass) that you want to transfer
- from. This feature is especially useful for
- imported MIDI files to separate one track
- onto both Treble and Bass clefs. This
- function causes EZPNO to recreate music
- notation and to force all measures to conform
- to the time signature. All manual changes to
- the notation will be lost.
-
- Quantize
- ────────────────────
- Enter <Q> or click [Quantize] to quantize
- the selected range of measures. This feature
- is especially useful for imported MIDI
- files so as to align note starting times and
- standardize note durations. This function
- causes EZPNO to recreate music notation and
- to force all measures to conform to the time
- signature. All manual changes to the notation
- will be lost.
-
- Paste
- ────────────────────
- Enter <P> or click [Paste] to paste the
- contents of the Measure Buffer at the current
- song position. Pasted measures will be
- inserted before the current measure. The
- Measure Buffer is cleared following a Paste
- operation.
-
- Merge
- ────────────────────
- Enter <M> or click [Merge] to merge the
- contents of the Measure Buffer starting at
- the current measure. The notation of each
- measure in the Measure Buffer will be
- combined with that of the current and
- subsequent measures of the song. If the end
- of the song has been reached, any remaining
- measures in the Measure Buffer will be
- appended to the song. The Measure Buffer is
- cleared following a Merge operation.
-
- Insert
- ────────────────────
- Enter <I> or click [Insert] to insert a new
- empty measure before the current measure.
-
- Repeat
- ────────────────────
- This parameter instructs EZPNO as to how many
- times a given paste, merge, or insert
- operation is to be performed. The default is
- one time (1).
-
- Enter <R> or click in the Repeat window to
- activate the Repeat text icon. Enter the
- value and press <Enter>.

- Clef Boundary
- ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
-
- The highlighted horizontal line in the
- notation window represents the clef boundary
- of the selected clef. If the Treble clef has
- been selected, all notes on and above the
- line will remain on the clef, and all others
- will be transferred to the Bass clef. If the
- Bass clef has been selected, all notes on and
- below the line will remain on the clef, and
- all others will be transferred to the Treble
- clef.
-
- Move the clef boundary line using the < >
- and < > keys or dragging or clicking the
- mouse. The boundary may be fine tuned by
- pressing the <+> or <-> keys, or by manually
- entering the MIDI note value. Enter <M> or
- click the MIDI note value window to activate
- this icon. Enter the value (0-127) and press
- <Enter>.

- Quantize
- ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
-
- The Quantize function allows the timing of
- raw MIDI data to be structured for notation
- purposes. This is especially important for
- imported MIDI files that are created by raw
- recording only. Because music timing is never
- perfect from such recording, EZPNO must know
- how to align note starting times that are not
- precisely on beat, and the minimum duration
- of each note.
-
- Note-On
- ────────────────────
- The lowest resolution is 4, so that all notes
- would be forced to start at the nearest
- Quarter note boundary. The highest resolution
- is 32, for which all notes would be aligned
- along the nearest Thirty-two note boundary.
- The higher the resolution, the more
- accurately does the notation reflect the
- original piece of music. However more memory
- is required for higher resolutions.
-
- With the keyboard, enter <N> to access the
- Note-On selector. Move the highlighted box
- to the desired note-on resolution and press
- <Enter>. With the mouse, click the desired
- note-on resolution.
-
- Note Duration
- ────────────────────
- The minimum duration for each note ranges
- between Quarter note and Thirty-two note.
- All raw note durations that are found to be
- less than this minimum, will be lengthened
- so as to conform to this setting.
-
- If the [?] setting is selected, EZPNO will
- quantize each note duration automatically,
- based on the next note starting time.
-
- With the keyboard, enter <D> to access the
- Duration selector. Move the highlighted box
- to the desired note duration and press
- <Enter>. With the mouse, click the desired
- note duration.

- Song Settings
- ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
-
- All of the song settings in this window, with
- the exception of 'Text mode', are MIDI
- settings that affect MIDI playback. The MIDI
- channel, volume, and instrument(patch) may be
- selected for both the Treble and Bass clefs.
- The Text mode sets the type of text to be
- displayed along the top of the Notation
- window. All settings are saved with the song.
-
- All text icons may be activated by pressing
- the corresponding hot-key, or clicking in the
- icon's window with the mouse.
-
- Hot-keys:
- T Tempo
- R Treble clef settings
- B Bass clef settings
- E Text Mode
-
- Tempo
- ────────────────────
- The tempo is the speed at which the song
- plays back. The allowable range is 1 to 255.
- The default tempo for new songs is 100.
- Slow down the tempo to facilitate learning of
- difficult song parts.
-
- Channel
- ────────────────────
- For playback, the MIDI channel must be set
- between 1 and 16. The default channel for new
- songs is 1 for the Treble clef, and 2 for
- the Bass clef. In order to use different
- instruments for playback of the Treble and
- Bass parts of a song, the channel settings
- must be different for each clef.
-
- The MIDI channel may be set to 0 in order to
- deactivate a clef. The deactivated clef will
- not sound during playback, be demonstrated or
- tested for sight-reading in the EZPNO Tutor,
- or be exported to a MIDI file.
-
- Volume
- ────────────────────
- The MIDI volume setting may range between 0
- and 127. A volume of 0 will silence the clef,
- but does not deactivate the clef as does a
- MIDI channel setting of 0 (see 'Channel'
- above). The default volume is 100.
-
- Instrument
- ────────────────────
- The instrument selection conforms to the
- General MIDI standard set. 128 instruments

-
- Chord Note Length
- ────────────────────
- This parameter specifies the duration of
- individual notes of a chord, when sounded in
- the EZPNO Editor or Tutor. The allowable
- range is 0 to 480 ticks.
- (120 ticks = 1 Quarter note)
-
- Chord Arpeggio
- ────────────────────
- Arpeggio specifies the delay in ticks between
- individual notes of a chord, when sounded in
- the EZPNO Editor or Tutor.
- (120 ticks = 1 Quarter note)
-
- Tutor Auto Delay
- ────────────────────
- This parameter is used for timing purposes in
- the Auto function of the EZPNO Tutor.
- Increasing this value improves the musical
- timing but slows the automatic stepping. If
- timing is less important, decrease this value
- to improve the speed of the automatic
- stepping.
-
- 3D drawing
- ────────────────────
- Setting 3D draw will enhance the three-
- dimensional quality of the piano images in
- the EZPNO Tutor. However a math coprocessor
- (DX chip) is recommended for acceptable
- speed.
