- Dear Shareware Vendor
-
- This file contains our distribution policy, update policy, a note on
- publications, and software descriptions.
-
-
- -- DISTRIBUTION POLICY
-
- If you are an ASP Vendor or Bulletin Board member, you are granted permission
- to distribute this product.
-
- If not, you have permission to distribute our shareware in its original form
- as long as you:
-
- * identify it as shareware (with an appropriate definition)
-
- * leave all intellectual property (copyright) notices in place, and do not
- alter the files in any way
-
- * do not remove any files other than the optional files (the list is in the
- PACKING.LST file)
-
- ... and as long as we do not request that you stop.
-
- That's it.
-
- The easiest way for you is to use the CDBOX303 archive, but if you need to,
- you may archive our programs (whatever the format, whether self-extracting
- or not), unarchive them, include/exclude optional files, include them with
- other programs on the same diskette (including your own installation
- routines), and do essentially anything you want as long as you follow these
- simple rules. We want the widest possible distribution, and don't want to
- stand in your way so long as you are honest with our mutual customer.
-
- The suggested archive name for BBS or FTP server use is CDBOX303 (whatever the
- extension). This will provide consistency for future updates.
-
-
- --- UPDATE POLICY
-
- 1. New versions are offered to our registered users and are automatically
- shipped to new registrants.
-
- 2. New versions are posted on saffron.inset.com, oak.oakland.edu and garbo.
-
- 3. ASP distribution members are included in the regular ASP mailing. This
- saves both of us both money and effort; if you are not an ASP vendor or
- bulletin board member, please consider joining.
-
- 4. Then, we send copies of major revisions of software to non-ASP vendors who
- have notified us of their interest. If you are a catalog house, send us a
- copy of the catalog in which the program appears, together with a copy of
- the diskette(s) containing the program(s) which you wish to distribute;
- we will send you a copy of any major updates to our software. If you run
- a bulletin board, send us a diskette(s) containing the program(s) you
- wish to distribute, and your mailing address, and we will update the
- diskette and send it back to you. Since all program copies are serialized
- by to whom they were originally sent, we are able to track registrations
- by vendor. As long as we receive registrations containing your number for
- any product, we will continue to provide you with updates for all
- products.
-
- If you have any questions, concerns, or complaints, please contact me:

- IMPORTANT: these addresses and phone number are valid until December 15, 1994.
- After this date, please try to obtain an updated version with my new
- addresses, consult an up-to-date copy of the ASP database, or call the ASP
- and ask them how to reach me (but please don't flood them with calls
- either).
-
- International: if you are a publisher interested in translating and supporting
- this product in another language, please contact us to discuss an exclusive
- agreement for your language and country. If you are interested in providing
- registration and support services, we are interested in working with you on
- a non-exclusive basis.

-
- -- SOFTWARE DESCRIPTIONS
-
- Descriptions of this software are included below for your convenience, you may
- of course use a different description in your catalog.
-
- *** ONE-LINE
-
- CDBOX303.ZIP VGA/mouse driven multiple-format sound player & shell <ASP>
-
- *** SHORT
-
- CD-Box is a VGA & mouse player & playback shell to play music on an AdLib or
- SoundBlaster card (or better). It provides a common high-level interface to
- multiple sound file formats (.CMF .MID .MOD .MUS .ROL .VOC .WAV and
- user-defined formats) with extras: internal .CMF, .ROL, .MOD, .VOC and .WAV
- support (with Pause & Repeat & Volume control), multiple and random song
- selection, automatic handling of bank files, song titles and lengths,
- playback from .ARC, .ARJ, .PAK and/or .ZIP archives, and nice graphics and
- animation!
-
- *** FULL
-
- CD-Box is, stated simply, a program which plays back music files on the AdLib
- Music Synthetizer Card or the SoundBlaster card (or better). However, it is
- also very pretty and fun to use - it runs in 256 colors and can use your
- mouse.
-
- CD-Box's main features:
-
- - A pretty ray-traced interface and fun animation - CDs pop up and down and
- start and stop spinning, pages scroll... including random events I'll
- let you discover!
-
- - Support for .CMF, .MID, .MOD, .MUS, .ROL, .VOC and .WAV music/sound files
- (some work with SoundBlaster only) and any other user-defined formats in
- multiple drive/directories. These files can also be stored in .ARC,
- .ARJ, .PAK and/or .ZIP files to save disk space - CD-Box will find them
- and play them from the archive (using a RAM drive if you want). There
- are also volume control, skipping forward and backward and echo effects
- available for some formats.
-
- - CD-Box allows you to easily program a selection of songs; it waits for you
- to select the songs you want to hear before starting to play the first
- one.
-
- - Instead of selecting songs, you can tell CD-Box how long you want the
- playback to last, and it will automatically select songs for you. You
- can even do that from the DOS command line (or a batch file), and CD-Box
- will play the songs, then exit right back to DOS.
-
- - CD-Box makes it easy to choose files in which to pick songs - so if you
- ARJed or ZIPped your songs by category, you can tell CD-Box which
- categories to use!
-
- - No data file to keep to date; bank filenames and song titles can be
- modified directly from CD-Box, which will save your changes to disk.
- CD-Box also knows the titles and lengths of numerous songs, and when it
- encounters unknown songs, can sometimes (it depends on the format)
- extract data from the files on disk.
-
- - CD-Box is able to use EMS or XMS memory to some extent, and to examine the
- SOUND environnment variable and of loading drivers and player programs
- from there if necessary (as any good SoundBlaster software should do).
