  1.                         INTRODUCTION TO MIM V2.0G

  3. My husband is a musician who has spent most of the last 30 years on the road.
  4. He often wished he could have vital information on hand such as: "What's
  5. the club like in the next town?"  "What's my agent's number?"
  6. "Is there anybody to jam with?"  SoI decided to do something about his plight.
  7. This constant need for information is the reason MIM was born.  MIM stands
  8. for Musician's Information Manager.  This version is listed as MIM200G, with
  9. the G standing for General.  Any musician should be able to benefit from the
  10. various parts of this program, whether playing weekend gigs in town or
  11. travelling full-time.  If there is enough interest, I hope to produce a
  12. version intended more for musicians on the road (let me know if you'd like
  13. to see this).
  14. The program's not perfect yet (may never be) but I'll keep trying to improve it
  15. and hope for suggestions from all of you out there.

  17.                     INSTALLING MIM V2.0G
  18.  
  19. No special installation is necessary, but it's necessary to make a 
  20. separate directory on your hard disk to store all the files in 
  21. MIM V2.0G. Then, copy the archived file to the directory and unarchive it.
  22. To make a directory on your hard drive, at the C> prompt, type "md ROAD".

  24.                       RUNNING MIM V2.0G
  25.  
  26. MIM is an information manager.  In it you will be asked to create
  27. data files on musicians, clubs, contacts, agents (we will assume
  28. for the moment that agents are people), equipment and songs.
  29.  
  30. To run the programs, type in MIM and press <ENTER>.
  31. No manual has been included, as the program is self-explanatory. 
  32. Examples of typical information have been included, however, to
  33. help you get started and find your way around.  Just delete the
  34. sample files when you have everything figured out (to do this quickly, you
  35. could type in "Delete *.dat and press <ENTER>.  Otherwise, you can delete
  36. each entry individually).

  38. The only point that may need explanation is the SELECT FILES
  39. reports.  When you see a menu listing for PRINT SELECTED what-
  40. ever, the report will print a listing of every file where you
  41. have selected Y for the CHOICE field.  That way, you don't 
  42. have to always print every file to have a paper copy of the
  43. one you want.  It is also invaluable for making song lists
  44. When you're finished with the selected items, you can then use the
  45. menu item in each sub-menu which lists the selected files.  When you select
  46. an item from the table, you can then change the choice to "N" and it will
  47. be reset.  You can also use these tables to see which items you have selected
  48. before printing a list of them.

  50. MIM V2.0G requires a minimum configuration of an MS-DOS
  51. compatible (XT or better) with CGA or better and a hard drive.
  52. MIM V2.0G should run on almost any MS-DOS computer.  MIM will run quite
  53. nicely under Windows, but is essentially a DOS-based program.  Please
  54. consult your Windows manual for installation and operation instructions
  55. (running DOS applications under Windows).
  56. If you find you have problems, please contact me with information about
  57. your computer and software as well as what sort of problem you are having.

  59.               COMMANDS USED IN MIM V2.0GG
  60.  
  61. While the program itself is menu-driven and quite simple to use, a few
  62. notes may be of use to the novice user.  The keys used in MIM
  63. V2.0 are as follows:
  64.               1. <CTL-ENTER> - hold the CONTROL key down and press
  65.                  the ENTER key.
  66.               2. <INS> - the INSERT key.
  67.               3. <DEL> - the DELETE key.
  68.               4. ARROW keys - otherwise known as the CURSOR keys.
  69.               5. <ESC> - the ESCAPE key.
  70.               6. DATES - to enter a date in a date field, enter the
  71.                  month (01-12), day (01-31) and then the last 2 
  72.                  digits of the year (00-99).

  74.                         SHAREWARE
  75.  
  76. MIM V2.0G is SHAREWARE, and we encourage you to share it with
  77. anyone who might have a use for it.  You may also feel free to upload
  78. it to any and all BBS in your area.  If the program is shared in any
  79. way, all original files contained in the program must be included
  80. and no fee may be charged for the program other than a nominal fee for
  81. a disk.  This, of course, does not apply to the registered version.
  82. sharing the registered version is illegal and WILL result in prosecution.

  84.                        LICENCING

  86. Registered users with more than one computer are permitted to make up 
  87. 1 working copy for each computer (this is to allow for taking a
  88. laptop on the road.
  89. Registered users who require more copies should contact us for special
  90. group discounts.

  92.                       VIRUSES

  94. This program was scanned for viruses (using the latest version of SCAN) before
  95. distribution.  You are encouraged to virus-scan all programs you 
  96. download.

  98.                         ABOUT THE DUSTWOOD BBS
  99.  
  100. We have our own BBS for technical support and distribution.  When you register,
  101. you will receive lifetime membership in the BBS.  Limited support will be
  102. provided for unregistered users, and current shareware demos of our products
  103. are available for download.  The phone # is (616) 949-8066 24 hours per day
  104. (except for Fidonet Zone Mail Hour - 3 to 4 am).

  106.                         REGISTERING MIM V2.0G
  107.  
  108. MIM V2.0G is, of course, shareware and not public domain.
  109. Please feel free to try it out for a reasonable time (please, no more
  110. than a month) before registering - I would do the same.
  111. Upon registering the program, you will receive (in addition to the
  112. FULL program) your customer ID number
  113. entitling you to free upgrades to this program for 12 months.  You 
  114. will also be entitled to free technical support for as long as you own 
  115. the program.  In addition, all registered users will automatically 
  116. become registered members of the Dustwood BBS where
  117. support and new product information is always available.  You will receive
  118. your membership information with your registered version of the program.
  119. Registration fee for MIM V2.0G is $20.00, payable by cheque or
  120. money order.
  121. To register, load the file REGISTER.DOC into your word processor and 
  122. print the registration form.  Fill it out and mail with your cheque or
