- Sound Hardware Circuits Document
-
-
- This document is supplied to provide simple universal circuits for use
- with DACPLAY and other programs. These are inexpensive devices the
- produce sound output that rivals the quality of the original Sound
- Blaster.
-
-
- I. A Simple Single Chip D/A Converter
-
- The following is a simple circuit hight quality sound, and
- requires only a few components. This circuit will work with other
- software, such as Mark J. Cox's MODPLAY and MODRES, which play amiga
- sound files on your PC. It even sounds better than a Sound Blaster
- for digital audio!
-
- You will need:
-
- IC1 ZN426
- C1 10 uF electrolytic capacitor, 10V+
- C2 4.7 uF electrolytic capacitor, 10V+
- R1 330 ohm resistor, 5%, 1/8 watt
- RJ1 Female RCA jack for line-level output to your amplifier
- RJ2 25 pin male D-type (DB-25) connector for your parallel port
-
- A +5v supply
-
- ZN426E +5V

-
- Depending on your amplifier, if the above circuit sounds poor,
- try removing the 10 uF capacitor. This circuit automatically shuts
- off when the DB-25 connector is unplugged from the computer.
- The ZN428 is made by Ferranti or Plessey, which are UK
- manufacturers. It is an excellent chip, but it's hard to get. I
- obtained one from EasyTech, a mail-order electronics supplier listed
- in most electronics magazines.

-
- II. An Alternate DAC
-
- If you can't get the ZN426 you can use a DAC0800, DAC0801, DAC0803
- from National Semiconductors in the circuit below.

- The 0.01 uF and 0.1 uF capacitors are ceramic. Depending on your
- amplifier, if the above circuit sounds poor, try removing the 10 uF
- capacitor. This circuit automatically shuts off when the DB-25
- connector is unplugged from the computer.
