- Chromatiks 2 Multi-group Music Disk Info-File
-
- (Be sure to read all the way to the end of this file, or you'll miss my
- apology, acknowledgements, and a special warning.)
-
- The Playing screen:
-
- When Chromatiks 2 starts, you'll see huge letters that fill the screen, and
- the PanSelect tune will start playing. Here's a guide to what you see on the
- screen:
-
- - The text window is in the center and provides comments on the music.
- - The note/staff window is on the left side of the screen, and it shows
- you what notes are where. Effective on some songs; not so on others.
- (Originally this was scrolling across the whole screen, but it didn't
- look right, so I took it out. If you want a player that has notes
- scrolling across the screen, email me at trixter@mcs.com).
- - The RealBar display is at the bottom, and displays the accurate volume
- level of each channel. I finally optimized this enough so that it's
- fast on the Gravis Ultrasound as well.
- - The second-to-last thin bar at the bottom of the screen should move
- slowly across the screen; that's the progress indicator. When it hits
- the edge of the screen, the song is over.
- - The last thin bar on the bottom of the screen is the volume indicator.
- It shows the overall volume level of the mixing (or mixer, on the GUS).
-
- Normally, the songs will cycle forever, and you can use <ESC> to exit. There
- are some keys you can use while the music is playing:
-
- 0-9 Change the song
- <ENTER> Skip forward
- <BACKSPACE> Skip backward
- H Headphone panning
- S Speaker panning
- M Mono panning
- P Pause the music
- + Raise the volume
- - Lower the volume
- <ESC> Exit
-
- Trixter Greets:
-
- - All composers who contributed songs to this disk and Chromatiks 1
- - All composers whose songs I couldn't use (Bahc, and others, I'm sorry)
- - All the people who gave me great comments, and kept me going
- - All members of Hornet (I'm in a group! Finally! ;)
- - Mr. Kahn (keep in contact!) and Veritech Knight (I'm a judge! Yes! ;)
- - All people who attended NAID
- - The guy who had a heavy french accent at NAID who told me how much
- he liked GRIND (I remember the bug, and I've fixed it--look for a
- bugfix soon, and Grind 2.0 with color!)
- - DareDevil/Ren'95, for talking to me for over an hour the first night of
- NAID in the Kosmic room. Finally, someone else to talk to about coding! :-)
- - Basehead/KFMF/FM, for going to the arcade with us the last night of NAID.
- Man, were you tired. :-)
- - Cairn McGreggor, the Scottish judge! (yeah, right--like he'll ever
- see this)
- - Maelcum, for not laughing at me when I joined the Rave
-
- A Warning:
-
- I only had two days to program this thing before I had to release it (I
- wanted to release it on the one-year anniversary of Chromatiks 1), so the
- player *DOES* have some bugs. Sometimes notes will be left playing at the
- end of the song, so ignore that. If the player encounters an unrecoverable
- error, it will exit and tell you what the problem is. Usually, all you have
- to do to recover is to run Chromatiks 2 again and then jump right to the song
- that had the error, which will then play normally.
-
- Finally, A Note from Trixter:
-
- All I can say is that I'm truly sorry about the quality of this music disk; I
- wanted much more, but all I had time for was the very basic design. I didn't
- have a graphics artist either, for that matter, but I thank AAP/ACME for
- drawing a sample logo that I thought looked really cool, and I thank
- Burt/ex-Sonic PC for offering his services.
-
- Please email me (trixter@mcs.com) with any comments, good or bad. Also,
- don't forget to check out the "PC Demos Explained" series of WWW demo-pages,
