- CODA ANNOUNCES SHEET MUSIC SCANNING!!!
-
- This file is distributed as a public service courtesy Cole
- Place Music Board.
-
- April 12,
-
- Coda Music Technology (the makers of Finale music notation
- software) just announced that they have acquired the technology
- necessary to convert scanned images of printed music into
- computer-based music notation! This acquisition is the result of
- an agreement between Coda and the University of Surrey in London,
- where the technology was developed by Dr. Nicholas Carter.
-
- Dr. Carter has developed an algorithm that allows printed music to
- be scanned on any industry-standard scanner, saved in TIFF format
- and then converted with notes, rests, key signatures, slurs,
- articulations and more. With the upcoming availability of this
- new technology, Finale users will gain a highly efficient method
- of note entry.
-
- Coda plans to offer a "scanning service bureau" as the first form
- of delivering this technology to the marketplace. Clients of
- Coda's scanning service will send in printed music and receive
- electronic Finale files in return. This service should be
- available in the first half of 1993.
- Later, a software package for converting scanned music to Finale
- formate will be offered as an options add-on to Finale. A stand-
- alone scanning application product is also planned.
- As further developments are announced, we will bring them to you.
