- █▓▒░ Welcome to DoomFX by Dynamic Software Technologies ! ░▒▓█
-
- Well , we can assume you have run the EXTRACT.BAT and have , thus ,
- created a directory on your hard disk called C:\DOOM\DEF_FX . This is
- the directory which should contain a complete library of your current
- Doom 1.2 sound effects in the .WAV format . You should not ever delete
- these sound files as they can not be reinserted if they are not
- present . This means you will be forced to use all of the custom
- effects you install .
-
- All Doom 1.2 Sound effects were written in 8 bit (Mono) sound and you
- may change this format to stereo or 16Bit if you wish . The time of
- each effect you create or edit can differ from the original sound but
- it is wise to keep it close to the original time in order that the
- effects are kept in synch with the visual effects .
-
- Remember that each file you replace sounds with can be extremely large
- and , therefor , is capable of making the .WAD file utterly huge . It
- is wise to keep your custom effects to a minimal size , possibly in
- 8Bit format to ensure the files are smaller .
-
- Each sound effect in Doom has a unique label , something like a file
- name . These are all shown in the DOOMFX.MAP . When you create a sound
- it should be named accordingly (otherwise it won't be inserted) and
- placed in the C:\DOOM\DOOMFX directory , overwriting the old WAV file.
- When you run DOOMFX.BAT , it will detect the shareware or registered
- version for you (as each has a different ammount of effects) and insert
- all of the effects in C:\DOOM\DOOMFX into the Doom .WAD file . Any new
- or edited .WAV files with the corresponding file name will be added .
-
- Any time sounds are extracted or placed into Doom , they are heard and
- described to the monitor .
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Example :
-
- Let's say you want to create a new effect for a shotgun firing .
-
- 1) Use your sound editor to create or edit a file called DSSHOTGN.WAV .
-
- 2) Save your file "DSSHOTGN.WAV" in C:\DOOM\DOOMFX\ , overwriting the
- old one .
-
- 4) Now make C:\DOOM your current directory and run DOOMFX.BAT .
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- DOOMFX.BAT will automatically update the Doom .WAD file with all of the
- sound effects in C:\DOOM\DOOMFX\ . This will save much time from doing
- it all manually and one by one . A problem the author experienced was
- that he couldn't remember after a long time , which files he had
- manipulated . By using this program , all files are refreshed , even if
- they have not been changed .
-
- Before you run DOOMFX.BAT for the first time , check and be positive
- that your current sound effects have been placed in C:\DOOM\DEF_FX\ .
- If they are not , something has undoubtedly gone amock and you may want
- to rerun the EXTRACT program .
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Brief recap of activities by correct order of events ...
-
- 1) UnZIP the DOOMFX12.ZIP archive into C:\DOOM .
- 2) Ensure that any required sound drivers are active .
- 3) Make C:\DOOM your current directory .
- 4) Type EXTRACT and allow the program to process your current effects.
- 5) Type CONTROL to use the DOOM Controller (VGA+Mouse required) .
- 6) If you wish , you may try creating a sound file and inserting it .
- 7) If you make a sound file , place it in C:\DOOM\DOOMFX\ .
- 8) To run the DOOMFX program from DOS; Type DOOMFX .
- 9) To install a single effect to Doom use DMAUD (Read the DMAUD.DOC) .
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Remember that there is a complete map of sound effects in DOOMFX.MAP .
- Have fun and enjoy . If you like this program and find it usefull , you
