  2.                           AWSUM SOUNDS  Ver. 100.1

  4.         Here we are at last this all started weeks ago when I first heard
  5. the Not.For.Kids.zip replacement sounds.  I loved them, but I thought that
  6. I would like a shot at my own set of sounds.  Well after many downloads from
  7. the alt.binaries.sounds News Readers and also many ftp's form ftp.uwp.edu
  8. I finally began my work.  My objective was to create something not only 
  9. humorous but also something a little serrious.  So many of the sets of sounds
  10. I downloaded seemed very narrowed into one area (ex. The Simpsons & Monty 
  11. Python).  So I decided to make a varied set of sounds.  I hope I achieved
  12. that.  Any way I owe much credit to the following for borrowing some of their
  13. sounds: 
  14.         Bill Neisius        (for dmaud, without it, we could never do this)
  15.         bill@solaria.hac.com
  16.         
  17.         Cluster@Neosoft.Com  for Not.4.Kids
  18.                 and  all the sound composers of:
  19.                         Doomsnds, Python, Sally, Silly, Weird, and Ash. 
  20.                         
  21.         I hope that covers all the credits.  If you feel that I left you out 
  22.         than you can put your name here to.

  25. Here's The Instructions:
  26.  
  27. #1 You got to have the doom.wad file or doom1.wad (shareware) file in with
  28. this stuff.  Or you can always move all of this AWSUM stuff over to your
  29. Doom! directory.  I think that if you are messing with the shareware sounds
  30. you may get some error notifications b/c sounds #50 - 61 don't exist for you.
  31. But it should work still.

  34. The fastest way is to run SAVEORIG.BAT and then AWSUM-IN.BAT.  I silenced this
  35. process so that you get the full suprise when you start the game (no spoilers)
  36.  
  37. If for some reason you don't like the sounds, they become boring, or you just
  38. miss the old ones (I sometimes do) just type run RESTORIG.BAT to restore the
  39. original sounds.  If you really love these sounds, as you should, and you want
  40. to add them to you windows or whatever you can make them into .wav's using 
  41. sox7dos.zip or any other converter from .raw to .wav.

  43. Of course here is the slow but fool proof method of putting AWSUM sounds in.

  47. DIRECTIONS
  48. There are a couple a ways of doing this, but here's what I suggest:
  49.  a. Copy DOOM.WAD (yep, that TEN Megabyte file) into a temporary directory.
  50.  b. Unzip these files into that temporary directory.
  51.  c. Run AWSUM-IN.BAT
  52.  d. Rename DOOM.WAD in your DOOM directory to SUMTHIN.ELSE.
  53.  e. Copy/Move the DOOM.WAD in the temporary directory to your DOOM dir.
  54.  f. Delete everything in the temporary directory.
  55.  g. Play Doom as abnormal, enjoy.
  56.  h. If you don't like the new sounds (YEAH, RIGHT!) copy SUMTHIN.ELSE to
  57.     DOOM.WAD then delete SUMTHIN.ELSE.
