  3.                             About TOUCH TYPE TUTOR

  5. The TOUCH TYPE TUTOR has been designed to teach you how to touch type in the
  6. most efficient way, by constantly adapting to your level of skill and giving
  7. you more practice with the characters you find hardest.
  8.  
  9. You will be presented with a series of lessons which gradually introduce more
  10. and more keys from the keyboard. The computer assesses your progress at the
  11. end of each session and decides whether it is time to promote you to the next
  12. lesson. Promotion to the next lesson is achieved when you reach a consistent
  13. speed of 30 words per minute.

  15. At the end of each session you may optionally save your results to disk.

  17. A game mode has been added as a means to enhance the learning of key positions
  18. as well as provide a little light relief. For more information on this, select
  19. the help option on the game menu screen.

  26.                          Operation of TOUCH TYPE TUTOR

  28. When typing during a session the clock starts timing your responses when you
  29. type the first letter.
  30.  
  31. At any time you can optionally switch a beeper on and off with the ! key which
  32. will sound the bell everytime you miss a character.  Any missed characters must
  33. be re-typed correctly before you can continue the lesson.  There is no extra
  34. penalty imposed for missed characters.

  36. You may abort a session early by hitting the ESC key at any time but if you do
  37. this you will not be allowed to save any results to disk.

  39. The SHIFT key is not introduced until lesson 8. Until then, all characters are
  40. presented in lower case. After lesson 8, you must use the SHIFT key as needed.

  50. After you QUIT the help screen and select START TUTORIAL you will be asked
  51. for your name. Your name is used to create a file to save your results at
  52. the end of the session. If more than one person uses the TOUCH TYPE TUTOR
  53. on this computer then please make sure you don't use the same names and so
  54. avoid confusion!  You may use spaces, numbers and underlines in your name
  55. if you wish.
