  96. The series name, "DosEA," is a play on words which means
  97. a dossier on DOS.

  99. But, what is it?

  101. Specifically, DosEA is a series of hypertext programs
  102. which explain DOS.  The series, so far, consists of . . .

  112. A key element in the presentation of the DosEA series is
  113. hypertext.  Once you get the idea behind hypertext, you
  114. can read and comprehend material extremely fast.
  115. Hypertext lets you select just what you want to read.  If
  116. you understand what you are reading, just keep at it.
  117. Otherwise, the hypertext leads you immediately to further
  118. explanations.

  120. Understanding hypertext is so crucial to the DosEA series,
  121. that the first program, "For Absolute Beginners," is all
  122. about how to use hypertext.  Even though the DosEA series
  123. is about DOS, the first program isn't about DOS, at all.
  124. Rather, it's about using hypertext.

  126. The second program in the series, "What is DOS?", then
  127. uses hypertext to introduce DOS.  This and the succeeding
  128. programs in the series also use hypertext to explain
  129. further details about DOS.

  175. "DosEA 5 -- All About MS-DOS 5" is a hypertext explanation
  176. of the additions, deletions, and changes in MS-DOS 5.

  178. It makes feature-by-feature, command-by-command,
  179. switch-by-switch comparisons between MS-DOS 5 and
  180. representative earlier versions of DOS.

  182. It is not a tutorial on all of the features of DOS 5.
  183. Rather, it is an explanation of the many ways DOS 5 is
  184. different than earlier versions of DOS.

  197. No installation is required.  However, all of the program
  198. files should be in the default directory.

  210. You should already know about hypertext before you use
  211. DosEA 5.  If you need a hypertext tutorial, one is
  212. provided with DosEA 1, which you can get with the order
  213. form in the ORDERFRM.TXT file.

  215. What follows is a brief tutorial on how to get started
  216. with DosEA 5.  It is assumed that DosEA 5 is located
  217. on a disk in the "A" disk drive.
  218.  
  219. Goal:  You have heard that MS-DOS 5 allows the DIR command
  220. to display all of the files in a directory, even the
  221. hidden and system files.  You would like to know exactly
  222. how to do this.
  223.  
  224. Solution:  The solution is a series of numbered steps.
  225.  
  226. 1.  Make the "A" disk drive the default.
  227.  
  228.   Enter:  A:
  229.  
  230. 2.  Start the program.
  231.  
  232.   Enter:  DOSEA5
  233.  
  234. 3.  Press <ENTER> after reading the title page.
  235.  
  236. 4.  Press <ENTER> after reading the disclaimer.

  238. 5.  Press <ENTER> after reading the trademark notices.

  240. 6.  Select "Introduction" from the Table of Contents.

  242. 7.  You read that you can select a command from the index
  243. to learn about changes to that command.  You select "Index."

  245. 8.  From the Index, you select DIR.

  247. 9.  While reading about the DIR command, you learn that you
  248. can enter "DIR /a" to list all of the files, even the
  249. hidden and system files.
