  2. Configuring your machine
  3. ========================

  5. Double click on Acornet to start the application. Select the configure
  6. option from the front-end. Click and then fill in each of the three
  7. options presented; 'provider' is for details about connecting to your
  8. service provider, 'computer' is for details about the computer you are
  9. using and 'modem' is for your modem type and speed.
  10.  
  11. Going on-line and off-line
  12. ==========================

  14. Clicking select on the blue LED icon on the icon bar will connect you
  15. to Demon. The LED will then turn red. Clicking on the red LED will
  16. disconnect you from Demon. Alternatively, you can use the 'Connect' and
  17. 'Disconnect' options on the front-end to FreeNet.
  18.  
  19. If you are in TCPIP mode you can still use the LED to connect and
  20. disconnect. There is also a menu option over the LED to connect and
  21. disconnect.

  23. Switching between FreeNet and TCPIP
  24. ===================================

  26. The menu option over the LED icon on the icon bar will always give you
  27. the option to switch between stacks. This can be done on-line or off-line.
  28.  
  29. Using ArcWeb and FreeTerm
  30. =========================
  31.  
  32. You must be on-line and connected to Demon before attempting to run either
  33. of these programs. They require the TCP/IP stack to be loaded to connect
  34. to the outside world. If you only wish to view html files local to your
  35. hard drive you may run ArcWeb without being connected, but if you wish to
  36. then go on-line to Demon, you must quit ArcWeb and then re-load when you
  37. are connected.

  39. Using Ping, Finger and Ftp
  40. ==========================
  41.  
  42. Very easy. Just fill in the boxes and away you go. With ping and finger
  43. you close the task-window after you have finished reading the contents.
  44. With ftp, once you have launched the ftp command from the front-end
  45. you continue to interact with that session via the task-window tht
  46. opens.

  48. Extra Help
  49. ==========

  51. More help texts are available if you click on the SLIPdial icon on the
  52. icon bar (the telephone in front of the box), and then click on the menu
  53. icon in the status window that appears (the icon is to the right of the
  54. word 'Select...'). This then gives a list of some help texts which you can
  55. view by clicking on.

  57. Incidentally, the status window shows how much time you have been on-line
  58. for. You can configure this window to pop up automatically upon start up
  59. by pressing the menu button over the SLIPdial icon and selecting choices
  60. from the menu. Click on the 'Open status' option then the 'Save' option.

  62. Trouble Shooting
  63. ================
  64.  
  65. Problem : Double-clicking on !Acornet does not seem to do anything
  66. Solution: Go inside the !Acornet directory and double-click on 'CleanUp'
  67.  
  68. Problem:  'ager:Sprites24' when trying to run ArcWeb
  69. Solution: You are running an old version of the Drawfile. Download the new
  70.           version from ftp.acorn.co.uk
  71.  
  72. Problem : Error % in module title
  73. Solution: Reboot the computer, SLIPdriver module died
  74.  
  75. Problem : Get file '.!Run' not found when trying to change to TCPIP
  76. Solution: You haven't 'seen' the !TCPIP directory
  77.
