  4. fsck is a suite of programs that are able to analyse and fix E-Format discs.
  5. If you are only interested to fix your broken disc soon, try to read the  
  6. !QuickFix file.
  7.  
  8. Here's a list and a brief description of the programs included in this
  9. package:

  11. fsck (1.22) - map fixer and analyst
  12. -----------------------------------
  13.  
  14. fsck is a disc utility that tries to fix the map of an E-Format disc (hard
  15. or floppy) if it is corrupted for some obscure reasons. fsck can also report
  16. some informations about the way the files are allocated (such as the bytes
  17. lost because of sectors boundaries) and eventually print a detailed
  18. description of the map and directories organization.
  19. fsck can also be considered as a replace of the *CheckMap command because it
  20. is faster, less prone to crash and gives useful informations on the files 
  21. allocation.

  23. eliminate (1.12) - file eliminator!
  24. -----------------------------------

  26. eliminate is a disc utility that eliminates a file from the directory but not
  27. from the disc map. This means that the disc space used by the file is lost
  28. (you should recover it using fsck). eliminate can effectively be useful only
  29. to remove the files that cannot be deleted in the usual way by RISC OS (for
  30. example a broken directory).

  32. hardfix (1.02) - heavily damaged disc fixer
  33. -------------------------------------------

  35. hardfix is a disc utility that fixes the errors that can affect the boot
  36. block, the 2 copies of the map and the root directory without having to scan
  37. the whole directory tree. These sort of errors generally make the disc
  38. un-readable or un-writable!
  39. hardfix can also be used to write the bootblock, map and root directory to a 
  40. file, so that you can always try to restore them in case they are totally 
  41. damaged (ie. absolutely not-fixable).

  47. The programs and files included in the fsck suite cannot be distributed
  48. separately.
