- TaskKiller
- ==========
- Version 1.05 (18 Mar 1995)
-
- Introduction
- ------------
- Sometimes tasks get out of hand and need to be put down without resetting
- the computer. On the RISC PC, this is easy, just press Alt-Break. However, on
- the lower spec. machines this cannot be done and an application which has
- hung needs to have the plug pulled by Ctrl-Break; rather drastic.
- So here is task killer, a simple easy to use program kill. A sort of
- silicon version of a chain saw masacreist without the psychological
- instability.
-
- Usage
- -----
- Run the Basic file. This will produce the module.
- Run the module.
- The keys used are :
- Risc OS 3.11 :
- Press Right-Alt-Break to kill the current task
- Risc OS 3.00 :
- Press Right-Alt-Scroll-lock to kill the current task
- On either :
- Press Right-Alt-Escape to generate error
- Press Right-Alt-Keypad * to start a command prompt
-
- KILLING TASKS
- -------------
- Use generate error first, this should exit most areas
- Then if this doesn't work, killing should terminate the task
- If you use either, then it is advised that you should reboot
- ****** EXTREME WARNING *******
- DO NOT USE THIS IF THE DESKTOP IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY!
- What will happen is that tasks will die randomly.
-
- COMMAND PROMPTS
- ---------------
- This will bring up the standard * prompt from anywhere, except in the
- desktop. Do not use any commands which may seriously affect the top level
- application.

- application may cause or loss of data resulting in its use.

-
- Source code
- -----------
- This program requires the !JFPatch pre-assembler to make the code. This is
- a simple text-to-basic assembler which takes a text assembler file, makes a
- basic program from it to assemble, assembles it and returns any errors.
- Currently, it is under development and requires a lot of work before it will
- be released in any form. As such, the patch file is mostly useless, but must
- be distributed with the resultant module.
- All source code an the resultant module must be distributed together.
