- GCC is the GNU C Compiler, from the Free Software Foundation (FSF).
- It is not public domain; there is a license (actually copyright) defining
- distribution restrictions. At the simplest level, it is available in
- source format at no cost. If you have access to anon. FTP, you should
- be able to find gcc-vms at most of the GNU archive sites. (The primary
- one is prep.ai.mit.edu, but there are many mirror sites all over the world.)
- There are two versions available; 1.42 is the current release of version 1,
- and gcc-vms is packaged in Unix format (compressed tar "saveset"). 2.3.3
- is the current release of version 2, and can be built from sources using
- 1.42 (the sources are also in compressed tar format), or the VMS binaries
- may be back available somewhere. Those were set up to be installed using
- VMSINSTAL.COM, but recently got removed to free up disk space. I'm not
- sure of the current status.
-
- You might try grabbing gcc-vms-1.42.tar.Z from the gnu subdirectory
- at archie.au, the AARNet archives.
