Re: moving large files from VMS to Unix, via optical disk

Sorry I can't help with creating a Unix file system from VMS,
but I regularly move large files (30MB) from VAX/VMS onto an optical disk
connected to a Sun running SunOS ("unix").
The unix system (Sun workstation) mounts the optical disk as a normal file
system (using Pinnacle REO rewritable optical, or Pioneer write-once (WORM))
which has normal directories, subdirectories, files etc.

The optical drive is accessed from the Vax/VMS system via Decnet.
The Sun runs DNI (Digital Network Interface) which is Sun's interconnect
product for Decnet. As far as the Vax knows, the Sun appears to be just another
Decnet node, which can be copied to, dir'ed, set host to, etc.

This may or may not suit your purpose, & it's a bit slow (19KB / sec  !!! )
There is a bug in Sun's DNI which fails to detect disk full when copying onto
the Sun, but Sun are working on that one.
