- Re: moving large files from VMS to Unix, via optical disk
-
- Sorry I can't help with creating a Unix file system from VMS,
- but I regularly move large files (30MB) from VAX/VMS onto an optical disk
- connected to a Sun running SunOS ("unix").
- The unix system (Sun workstation) mounts the optical disk as a normal file
- system (using Pinnacle REO rewritable optical, or Pioneer write-once (WORM))
- which has normal directories, subdirectories, files etc.
-
- The optical drive is accessed from the Vax/VMS system via Decnet.
- The Sun runs DNI (Digital Network Interface) which is Sun's interconnect
- product for Decnet. As far as the Vax knows, the Sun appears to be just another
- Decnet node, which can be copied to, dir'ed, set host to, etc.
-
- This may or may not suit your purpose, & it's a bit slow (19KB / sec !!! )
- There is a bug in Sun's DNI which fails to detect disk full when copying onto
- the Sun, but Sun are working on that one.
