  23. I don't really agree there. Reg Perrin has aged badly I think because of
  24. the gratuitous use of those thought-association gags with the wife as a
  25. hippo or whatever. Maybe it's just me, but I wasn't even born when Monty
  26. was first shown and I love it. However, there is a great deal of formula
  27. to be found in Monty gags. For example, what I call the Thesaurus formula,
  28. where they reel out about twenty different ways of saying the same thing,
  29. yet it's still funny. eg. the Parrot Sketch and the Cheese Shop Sketch
  30. (hundreds of ways of saying "dead" hundreds of different kinds of cheese).
  31. There was another that I spotted during one episode, but I can't think
  32. of it now.

  34. It's a shame that the only programme to carry on the same strange traditions
  35. as Monty is A Bit Of Fry & Laurie, which I feel has a similar surreal
  36. feel to it.
