  19. As a Volunteer Firefighter, I have been trying to keep up with the state-of-
  20. the-art in firefighting technology.. well, the thing to fight fuel fires with
  21. is foam.. several different types exist, each for a different type of flamable
  22. liquid.  If you see a gasoline truck running down the highway, you will notice
  23.  a little red diamond shaped sign with the number 1203 on it.  That means
  24. "Gasoline", "Gas Oil", "Gasahol", "Motor Fuel, n.o.s", or "Motor Spirit".
  25. Fires on all but one of those fluids can be fought with a single foam compound.
  26. See, the alcohol in Gasahol does really nasty things to the lower-cost foam
  27. compounds that work just fine on Gasoline [and close relatives].  Not only
  28. is this a conspiracy between the EPA, ADM, the Oil Companies, and the
  29. automotive manufacturers, it expands to the chemical companies who are gouging
  30. the [overworked and underpaid] fire departments and making life on the highway
  31. just that much more dangerous for us all...

  33. If you agree with gasahol or not, please contact the DOT and let them know that
  34. you feel there should be a distinction in placarding between gasoline and
  35. gasahol products.  Those that fight fires thank you!
