- A very small nit...
-
- Cellular phones do not LEAK power. They are specifically designed to
- OUTPUT a maximum of .6 watts of radiated power at their designated
- frequency.
-
- Bag phones and permanent mounts are allowed to radiate up to a maximum
- of 3 watts of power.
-
- Why the difference? Well, to save battery power of the portables
- for one thing, but more importantly to keep you from frying your
- brains! The non-portable antennas are rarely held right up next
- to your ear while transmitting.
-
- And yes, there *are* a few portable models available that allow you
- to switch from low to high output, for fringe area transmission.
- Battery life for these phones at 3W is very short and it is selectable
- and they also are shipped with big FAT disclaimers for the innocent.
