- Good point (I think ;^0>). I was _immediately_ turned off by this typical
- bloody Hard Sell on a general newsgroup, and agreed heartily with Bruce for
- flaming the person who posted it. At the same time, a post today displayed
- a list of upcoming shows at Cinisphere, and not only did it not bother me,
- I saved it for future reference. I think the difference is common sense.
- I would be plenty interested in a list of new LD carriers, or even an
- announcement by the carrier that they are open for business, but it is
- ENTIRELY inappropriate to use this space as a gaudy, annoying bill board
- for direct personal gain. It stinks to high heaven before you even think
- about it, which means (at the very least), it's lousy salesmanship.
-
- I'm a salesman. Sometimes I'll see someone who might need our services,
- and I'll email that person some brief information, and tell them that if
- it sounds interesting they can reply and I'll fill them in. Even doing
- that it's best to be careful; no one is going to like you if you spend your
- time stuffing garbage in everyone's mailbox.
-
- I think quite highly of this forum, and of its potential in the future.
- The average person I've seen shouting 'net police' is sticking to the
- absolute freedom of speech line, which is a crock. The signal/noise ratio
- will destroy this forum if it is not handled reasonably and fairly. If you
- just _have_ to say something, say it in the right newsgroup - there's
- something for everybody.
