  33.    By "we" you must mean White Industrial Culture.  The indigenous inhabitants
  34.    of this continent had existed in almost perfect interaction with the
  35.    environment for at least ten thousand years and were quite fond of what
  36.    White Modernists call a "nasty piece of work."  The same is true of the
  37.    African natives, whose habitat was much less robust but was loved and
  38.    nurtured by them until a few hundred years ago, when technology was
  39.    elevated to its irrational preference over nature.  Living in nature
  40.    requires little technology--in fact it is most hostile to humans who
  41.    rely on technology for survival.  Native Americans knew this, and placed
  42.    strict edicts against unnescessary advances of technology.
