  12. disturbing evidence begins to appear.  the bones are thicker,
  13. heavier; at times we discover odd shapes relieved in the rock,
  14. as of strange species plucked away behind our backs; we find
  15. whole skeletons in positions they should not possibly have been
  16. able to achieve; and there are strange beetles crawling the
  17. cliff, which not even our entomologist has been able to identify.
