- I was willing to try to accept the culture. I tried to accept the
- culture. The culture was not interested in my acceptance or
- rejection but rather in consumption -- not the mundane crassness of
- conspicuous consumption, which I avoided simply by staying out of malls,
- but the hidden, subterranean, whisper-quiet consumption of raw
- materials for which no credible replacement has been set forward.
- A sound which can be readily ignored. A white noise. Loud as
- all hell if you hear it, loud like the air rushing out of a
- pinhole puncture in the walls of a spacecraft.
-
- The culture, I couldn't help noticing, was intent on consuming all
- available resources and, ultimately, itself. I am willing to consider
- alternatives.
-
- I have no joke. Just out of curiosity, does anybody know anything?
