- Trains rolled through Geri's back yard every hour on the hour. His yard
- opened up onto the Tri-City Freight yard, and traffic was frequent. Two
- months had passed since Geri had moved in, and he'd learned to tune out.
-
- But one night, the trains stopped. There was a wreck up the track; none
- of the regulars were getting through. For once the rail ties refused to
- ululate their haunting symphony, and silence reigned. The hours without
- traffic ticked by, and slowly silence began to eat at Geri's sanity. As
- each agonizing, noiseless second slithered from the Grandfather clock, a
- little bit more of Geri's nerve frayed into raw, wet fibers. Finally, a
- light appeared: The Trains! Yay! It turned out to be very quiet UFO's.
