- No. If the Bible was opposed to slavery, it would have said so. Instead, it
- told slaves to try to 'convince' masters to let them free, thus implying that
- masters have a legitimate right to the decision, which indeed supports the
- existence of the practice. Recognizing the practice merely entailed saying
- "there are slaves." The above quotes support slavery by legitimizing it in
- the dictates of God. Silliness.

- Why is this relevant? A slave is a slave. And actually, Soviet law had a
- 'bill of rights' as extensive as ours. It was never enforced, mind you, because
- the government was so corrupt and single-minded, but it was in the black-letter
- law. And why does it matter if Roman slaves 'had it better than most.' It
- seems you are preparing to concede that the Bible did support slavery, on the
- grounds that it wasn't such a bad thing afetr all.
