  27. statistics then any of us here would care to wade through. Of course
  28. he knows wha tthe current rates are.

  35. Perhaps because (being a rational man) he realizes tha tthe way to
  36. reduce the number of abortions is to address the causes of abortion.
  37. By education, ensuring the availability of effective, affordable
  38. contraceptives, and by education.
  39. Once upon a time, a few people managed to make the consumption of
  40. alcholic beverages for purposes of recreation outlawed. Did it reduce
  41. the number of people imbibing these beverages? Nope, not at all. It
  42. was a total failure.
  43. If you want to reduce the number of abortions, banning abortions is
  44. not the way to go about it. Address the causes. Teach kids the truth
  45. about sex, and how to protect themselves. Encourage them to wait, and
  46. discourage promiscuous behavior (just don't delude yourself into
  47. thinking you're going to stop teenage sexual experimentation).
  48. If no girl ever got pregnant because of birth control failure, or
  49. because no effective birth control was available, or because she
  50. didn't know that 'you can't get pregnant if we do it standing up, with
  51. our left arms tied behind this tree while singing _Amazing Grace_' is
  52. a lie, how many abortions would be unecessary?
  53. To paraphrase your last line:

  55. actions do nothing to address the causes of abortion?
