- abuse and neglect of children, now that abortion is legal?

- Now, I realize that a lot of things have changed in this country
- since the 1950s. Racial discrimination is housing, employment,
- and public accomodations is now illegal. There has been a dramatic
- expansion of governmental assistance to the poor, and child protective
- services is much more quick to intervene on behalf of abused
- children. Yet, physical abuse and neglect are MUCH more common
- today than in the 1950s.
