  30. Reserve medal 'M' device established
  31.  
  32.     WASHINGTON (ARNEWS) -- The Defense Department recently 
  33. approved the establishment of a bronze "M" device for reserve 
  34. component medals.
  35.     The Reserve Component Mobilization Appurtenance to Reserve 
  36. Medals will identify past, current and future service of 
  37. members of the National Guard and Reserve who volunteer or are 
  38. called to active duty in certain circumstances, according to 
  39. defense officials.
  40.     Reservists "who volunteer for and serve on active duty, or 
  41. who are called or ordered to active duty make special 
  42. sacrifices in service to the nation that merit special 
  43. recognition," said Deputy Secretary Donald Atwood in a 
  44. memorandum authorizing the device.
  45.     Specific regulations for issue and wear of the 'M' device 
  46. are forthcoming, officials said.
