- I have just uploaded the following GENEALOG file(s):
-
-
- GENEALOG perpcal Perpetual Calendar (see description below)
-
- New - file(s) are available now. See end of this message for
- a description of the file.
-
- GENEALOG is an area on the LISTSERV computer which is used for storage
- of many, many textual files which pertain to genealogy.
-
- You may request a listing of the file be mailed to you by simply
- sending the following line to: LISTSERV@vm1.nodak.edu as the only
- text of a message.
-
- /files roots-L
-
- It normally only takes about ten minutes for the LISTSERV computer to
- reply, sending you a message with the entire listing of files.
-
- You may pick & choose the filenames of interest and to request
- a file just simply send the following line back
- to: LISTSERV@vm1.nodak.edu as the only text of a message.
-
- GET GENEALOG filename
-
- (please replace the "filename" with the filename of interest)
-
- Here is a description of it
-
- A "PERPETUAL" CALENDAR
- ======================
-
- The following information lets you find the day of the week for
- any date in the 1800's and 1900's. Simply look up your year of
- interest in the appropriate table (1800's or 1900's), find the code
- letter (A to N), and then use the calendar of that letter.
-
- For example:
-
- On what day of the week was 1st July 1837?
-
- 1) 1800's table: 1837 = calendar 'A'
-
- 2) calendar 'A': 1st July = Saturday
-
- (Note: this information is for the Gregorian, or New Style,
- calendar, which had been adopted in most countries before 1800.
- This includes Great Britain, most European countries, and USA.
- Further details for individual countries can be found in
- "Dates and Calendars for the Genealogist" by Clifford Webb,
- published by the Society of Genealogists,London, 1991,
- ISBN 0 946789 07 X)
-
- I believe the information below to be accurate. Please email any
- corrections or suggestions to me at the address below.
