- I see that there is someway to reproduce earlier messages when responding
- to them, but I don't know how. This is in reponse to Mike Holland's note
- about the 1930/1940 census.
-
- This Census Bureau program is called AGE SEARCH. It cannot be used for
- genealogical research generally, but can be used for specific requests
- such as for confirming age for elegibility for Social Security when no
- birth certificate, etc., can be found, or to prove citizenship to obtain a
- passport under similar circumstances.
-
- This program is explained in the Commerce Department publication "Age
- Search Information", Superintendent of Documents # C 3.2:Ag #/2. Most
- recent edition published in 1990 (I think). Depository libraries
- selecting Iten # 146 may have this publication.
-
- General rule remains: census rolls are confidential for 72 years, ie: 1930
- will become available in 2002. Hope this helps. PS: can someone explain
- to me how to reproduce parts of earlier messages when responding?
