- Sorry to put this on the list but I deleted the initial message about
- this before the MLKing holiday and can't remember now who sent it!!
-
- Unfortunately, I will NOT be attending ALA Midwinter conference so I
- cannot get together with other rooters who will be there. We are STILL
- trying to prepare for spring semester which starts next Thursday and
- have a zillion internal projects going on. Only 3 people from our
- entire library are going to the conference.
-
- Some of the projects include the following:
-
- Shelfreading our entire general collection of some 1.2 million items.
- This is the first time that we have been able to pull this off since
- the earthquake of '89. This has included the campus physical facilities
- unit pulling every single custodian into the library from every other
- place on campus to give a complete dusting to all the shelves and
- scrub cleaning of all the study tables.
-
- Complete inventory of our special collections and rare books. Again
- the first time that we have been able to do this since the quake and
- unfortunately are running at about a 40% problem rate (i.e. records
- for books we can't find, books for records lost in the database,
- incorrect locations in the database, etc.)
-
- Weeding our bound periodical section of titles which no longer support
- our curriculum due to changes in the subject field or dead programs.
- We are anticipating that this will be about 1,000 periodical titles!
-
- Anyway, we hope we will be ready for the students come next Thursday!
