- There are a few good universitites up in Chicago and the surrounding
- area. If you are looking for grad school in psych, you might want to
- write to Northwestern, Loyola, and the University of Chicago. These
- are pretty good schools overall and they are also good in graduate level
- psychology.
- DePaul and IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology) also have graduate
- programs in psychlogy but I don't know how good they are. This is not
- to say that they aren't good; I just have not heard enough about them
- one way or the other. The University of Illinois at Chicago also
- has a program and (I think) is pretty good if you want to go into
- clinical.
- ISU (IL State) in Bloomington also has a graduate program in psych, I
- believe. SIU (Southern Illinois) at Carbondale might also be another
- to check out. I can't comment on the campus at Edwardsville.
- Of course there is also the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana,
- which is definitely a good school all-around.
- There are also some small liberal arts type schools around here,
- but I can't offer much information on them.
- Here at Bradley we have only a masters-level program. I don't know how
- good that program is either; all I can tell you is that Bradley prides
- itself on its focus on undergraduate teaching rather than graduate
- or faculty research.
-
- As far as jobs go, you're in luck if you've been a bartender.
- Bartenders can make the bucks, but you probably already knew that.
- Other than that I have no advice to offer...
-
- About places to go to or see: it depends on your interests. Since I'm
- from Chicago, I tend to prefer it and think that it's the most interesing
- part of the state. Compared to Chicago the rest of Illinois seems
- rather rural. Of course there are a few places with large universities
- (for example, Urbana) that have such things as cool bookstores etc.,
- but that's because the town can afford to cater to the college students.
- Then there are places like Peoria. Peoria has more than 100,000 people,
- and Bradley has 5,000-6,000 students, so if Bradley shriveled up and
- blew away Peoria would hardly be different.
-
-
- In closing, if anyone wants the addresses for Northwestern, Loyola,
- DePaul, or U of Chicago, I could probably dig up my applications
- and post them. (specifically the addresses of the graduate psych
- departments...)
