- Pedophilia is _not_ a sexual orientation. Why not?
-
- Well, would you consider a rapist to have a "sexual orientation" to rape?
- I certainly don't. The only difference between a child abuser and
- a rapist is the age of their victim. That's it. Both involve acts of
- violence and/or abuse of power. So to say that either the rapist or
- the child abuser, who desire to force sexual acts on others, have a
- certain "sexual orientation" is to misrepresent the dominant
- characteristic of their act. Individuals who rape or commit
- child abuse have tendencies to commit acts of violence and/or
- abuse of power. Those acts _ happen_ to involve sex, but doing
- so does not bring them (or the abusers) under the rubric of
- sexual orientation.
-
- The same argument applies to sexual harassment. A sexual harasser
- does not have the "sexual orientation" towards X. They have a
- tendency to _harass_ sexually.
