- It sounds like this might vary from state to state as well. But it also
- brings up an interesting point, the mother can lie for whatever reason,
- and chances are pretty small that she will be called on it. And as has
- been pointed out, she may also be mistaken or unsure. But this issue
- is one many have a great emotional investment in, which is why I put
- lying as the first option. I have seen revenge at work, as well as
- extreme possessivness (personal experience here), and neither is a basis
- for open honest discussion.
