- Pace Steve Seidman, it has often seemed to me that the better
- porn is gay, or at least, variant. If anyone knows of straight
- porn writers on par with, say, Pat Califia, I would like to know
- of them.
-
- I have a speculation on the cause for this, getting back to
- something of interest to soc.feminism. It is thus: that the vast
- majority of straight porn merely replays themes that trigger the
- socially reinforced and common prurient interests, while those
- who write for variant audiences have to work harder to figure out
- where the erotic lies and what it means in their out-of-mainstream
- context. (Actually, this is probably less true of gay porn at
- this time than it is of other variants.)
