  34. In fact, I don't believe that's the case.  That may be true at most of
  35. the smaller North American schools, but the last time this subject
  36. came up it turned out that lots of larger schools do pay student
  37. government officials.  Stanford does pay its student government
  38. officials salaries -- members of the Council of Presidents, until the
  39. COP was at least temporarily abolished by popular vote for this year,
  40. received $4000 for the year.  Which may seem like a lot, but given that
  41. Stanford tuition/room&board/etc. is $22000/year and I make about that
  42. much doing my 12-14 hour/week job, it's not _that_ unreasonable.  Of
  43. course, it was unreasonable enough to get the COP voted out...Oh well.
